Default ran into snag with sportline spring install

started my install of koni yellow\eibach sportline combo today. The rears went fine.....however, when i started assembling the front struts....it looks like i will need a spring compressor. The threaded portion of the strut does not protrude to allow me to screw on the 2 lock nuts. it looks like the spring will have to be compressed in order to do this. I dont understand why......these are lowering springs....shouldnt the assembly go on without compressing like the rears did.

I have done enough suspension installs to know what i am doing so i assembled everything correctly.....

any ideas on why this would happen? unusual? normal?

thanks
-chris

You need a spring compressor, or someone strong enough to compress the spring down enough to get the nut started. I have the same springs on my car.

Yup, thats sounds about right. The front usually does take some sort of compression to get on unless you are SLAMMING your car. Even with a 3+ inch drop that I had on my car the first time around (couldn't go anywhere that low, had to raise it lol) I had to push down on the spring hat to get the nut started. GL

I know you said its not ball joints, but could it be the ball joints hitting your wheel well??

sorry for the bad luck with the new setup bro

yup, that's my case, i lowered about 2 inches in front and i have adj ball joints for camber. The top of the nut on top of the ball joint sometimes slams up into my wheel well....i'm thinking about drilling holes in wheel well to allow for clearance.

Are you sure you got all the bushings off your old shocks? I know when I did mine I accidentally threw one of the top bushings away with the old shock, and had to go diggin through the trash to find it!

if its not that, its probably your control arms hitting the inside of your fender well. You can try to cut it, but its going to be really difficult. The metal there is EXTREMELY thick. I know people who have done it, but dont know how.

I have this setup on my 4th gen and didn't run into any problems outside of missing bushings and not tightening down stuff completely.

Also, the koni yellows have adjustable spring perches. I had set my spring perch on the highest setting on the fronts to keep the control arm from banging as well. I had my shock assemblies in and out of the car a total of 3 times before I got it all correct (and I was following instructions!), so don't feel bad if you dont get it right your first time.
