17" wheels sucks!
i just recently bought a set of 17" wheels with 205/40's tires from a friend and it sucks on my gsr. i mean it looks nice and all but that's about it. the car runs really heavy and steering is verying sensitive - like it doesn't want to travel straight for long - always pulling either directions. is anyone else having this problem? if this is the case for all so called "performance wheels", i perfer the stock 15's anyday. way better feel in my opion.

It's a shame you had to find out the hard way that 17 inch wheels blow. Your car should still drive straight, I would check the tires, and make sure the pressure is right and make sure your alignment is in check. Most people claim tires and wheels are what causes these problems, but it can very well be worn suspension components.
alignment and pressure are dead on. the cars was driving perfect with the stock wheels. it's not too bad but it's just very "sensitive" now. i've also noticed the steering response is actually slower too.

What kind of tires do you have?
Tires play a big role in this too...not just rims.

17's look the best
i have 17's
but its true that they will make you quite a bit slower
my car steers fince and handles just as well with the 17's appose to 15's
the only down fall is that it makes your car slower

When i got my 17's i loved them and then Motegi came out with those dam Track Lites and then i wanted to sell mine and get some 15's again. I mean who doesn't want some 10 lb rims... just a shame there so much $$$.
I have 17's but this week I am rockin my stock 14's because I'm getting 2 curbed rims repaired. I think the 14's have waaay less turn-in, and feel less "accurate" than the 17's. The 14s do however ride much smoother and track better.
Tires are crucial, as crummy tires can make your ride rough or squirmy. You can adjust the damping on your suspension to match up better with the heavier wheels as well.
I have 17's on my teg and want 18's.

thats exactly the same way i felt...........i rather have better ride quality and handling over anything. (not anything but you know what i mean). I've been through 2 sets of 14's, 5 sets of 15" rims, 3 sets of 16's, and 2 sets of 17's. I'm sticking with 16's for now on. You get fashion and function, and good ride quality and handling!

I assume you're lowered, probably with some negative camber? With 15" tires with bigger sidewalls, the inner sidewall can flex more, and will still allow the entire width of the tread to contact the road. With 17" 40-series tires, the sidewalls are much stiffer. I would bet that the most outer edge of your tires aren't even touching the ground. Narrower tires are alot easier to turn than wide tires, so that's probably why the steering feels lighter.

Did you check to see if your tires rotate in the right direction? Directional tires only go one way.
