Default B20 VTEC w/ ITR cams

Here's the setup.. B20B block, stock. ITR head, stock. Will the valves hit the pistons? Head isn't milled, and a stock headgasket will be used.

How about Toda Spec A cams?

Sorry, but I've never done this setup before. I have always used different pistons, so I never did the measurements. Just wondering if anyone knows.

im waiting for someon to say "clay the motor" but we all know that's too annoying and complicated...

taking into consideration the increased deck height and the lower compresion of the pistons, im gonna say no. The valves wont hit.

the compression and the deck height aren't the main issue. it's the fact that VTEC valves are way bigger than LS valves, so the valve reliefs in the pistons are the right size. i can do the claying if i went ahead and did this combo, but i'm not gonna bother if i know someone has tried this already.

Yes the Vtec Valves are BIGGER. You will more than likely have to open up the valve releifs.

EDIT: Nvm, you are the same person as the poster, if the valve reliefs are opened up then you should have no problem.

come to think about it - my buddy dumped a b20 in his civic SI (kept the head), and tossed in some CTR cams, and i recall he had to have the valve reliefs opened up.

Yeah he stated the vlave releifs have been machined so he should be fine. Id still clay the motor to be on the safe side. I mean yes its some labor, but its going to be more labor and money down the road if your vlave hits the piston.

i had a friend with a similar set up, he did not have to open the valve reliefs with the ctr cams. the toda a's you would have to clay it, or lock the vtec in place and see if the valves touch the pistons!

Thats a releif (pun un-intended) to me, Were the cam gears 0,0? I really dont want to open up the valve releifs unless I have to. And I was only going to use either CTR's or ITR's.

the cams were moved about 2+, and -2(intake/exhaust), he ran those cams for over a year!

NO CONTACT...

i clayed them too....

i did have the pistons mod'd to accept a huge cam but even after that there was no valve to piston contact...didn't even touch the clay!

pistons will only hit if u use a gsr head, cause of the chambers, but a type head should b fine, my friend had a ls vtec, gsr head. Pistons tapped like crazy, then he put a b16 head on it, worked like a charm, head was even milled.
