Default H23VTEC Build VS. H22A1 Build (yes I searched, no I didn't find what I want)

I'm buying a 93' USDM H22A1 for $800. I've been researching the H23VTEC for about 4-5 months and still have not found the answer I'm looking for.

Which build is going to have more power?

I have yet to find a dyno sheet from an H23VTEC...and would like to know which motor is going to be worth more of my money. I understand sticking with the H22A1 and building it would be easier to find parts. But would the H23VTEC make more power in the long run?

With my H23VTEC (w/ the 93 USDM H22) I plan on Type S pistons, H23 Crank, H23 Rods and leaving the oil squirters. Is this going to give more power then a built H22? To define built: an N/A motor w/ bolt on's and the normal mods to the internals (cams, p&p, valves, pistons ect...)

Ths h23 vtec is kinda like having the best of both worlds.

It will give you the low end torque that an h23 will, along with

the upper rpm powerbands that the h22 has.

If your looking for reliability, your probably better off sticking

with the h22.

IT DEPENDS

my built H23 VTEC made 204/161 my built h22a made 214/167

personally I believe the H23 VTEC is a waste of time, more trouble than it is worth in torque...as with good tuning and the right parts your h22a will make way more. as you can see my h22a made more torque anyway

This is the part of the H23VTEC I don't understand. H23 has 156tq stock, H22 has 158tq stock. How does the H23 crank, rods, and pistons give you more torque then a regular H23??

do a search, longer stroke = more torque..

there is more LOW END TORQUE in the H23 Crank (below from 1200 - 3500rpm) I've driven both and I know this because I miss my torque like no tomorrow ... but as a result, your power band is minimal because you can't exceed 7200rpm or you risk spinning bearrings and breaking other ****.

If you want a dyno, do a search through the archives for H23vtec AND Dyno .. there have been 1 recent dyno plot by eghatchh23hybrid or whatever his name is ... a true H23A Vtec from Japan Accord SiR-T.

http://www.preludeonline.com also has some dyno's around.. a long time ago, somebody posted a dyno of just the stock H23 block w/ H22 head on it on some website .. that one would be in the archives maybe a year ago ?

well i had a mild tuned h23vtec before rod bearing went, now i have the same setup and parts on my h22. and hands down the h23vtec had more low end and mid range. it was a blast to drive so im building one up again i personally dont think its a waist of time

Like SKDRCR said, if you want reliability, go with the H22, but if you want to do something that not everyone on your block will have, go with the H23Vtec. Both engines are good engines and you wont be disappointed with either.
