Let's bait a car thief...
Did anyone ever think of baiting car thiefs?
I got the idea reading ITRsports.com's post about his stolen arrr. It would be time consuming, but it COULD work..
If you left a desirable car out for a period of time, the odds of it getting stolen are pretty good..
for instance, leave a yellow arr out with a for sale sign.
Might be crazy, but it would be great to catch a group of them..
We could do REALLY REALLY bad things to them, and we could use questionable interrogation techniques!

If I ever lived in an area that theft was a problem my friends & I would be all over this. Fortunately for everyone I have never had that issue, NY/NJ people would have no problem though.

This actually is a good idea. If you went to a Police station w/ this idea, although they'd probably shoo you away, it'd be legal and would nail a ton of thieves. Just think of a PY R on the side of a busy city street, thieves would be all over this like white on rice. Now who has the ***** to actually use their own pride and joy.

leave it unlocked andhopefulley they wont break the ignition but do something crazy like strap it down to a sewer vent like the do with dynos
then they will really get nailed for grand theft auto instead of breaking into a car, and there will be no chase

Dude, in BC we have a 'bait car program' sponsored by ICBC and the police. They set up popular cars in high theft areas rigged with GPS, lots of hidden cameras, etc. Auto theft has dropped a lot in the last year due to this program. Check out http://www.icbc.com for more details. Type 'bait car' in the search bar.

It is, but this is not entrapment.
Entrapment = I approach someone and ask them to steal my car so that I can claim insurance company. Chances are he wouldn't have stolen it if I didn't coerce him into doing it.
Not entrapment = I leave my car for sale on my own property, under extremely high surveillance. A worthless son of a *****, who steals cars for a living notices it advertised for sale in the auto trader, comes by at 3am and attempts to nick it from my driveway. If it hadn't been my car he stole, it would have been someone elses. What I've done is not illegal, nor is it sufficient for him to beat the theft charge.
What's illegal is what I am going to do to the thief once I catch him.
I've always thought that via the power of the Internet, people should be able to obtain lists of other people convicted of car theft, their addresses, and post them on the Internet -- either by appearing at sentencing or by searching public records.
Then you don't even need to put your own car at risk.
Then all you need is an alluminum baseball bat, a straight razor, and the juice of a thousand lemons.
It is, but this is not entrapment.

Why not just get a complete ITR shell without an engine as a bait car? Then rig and feed a flamethrower through a hole in the dash. Cover everything inside of the car with fire retardent gel and leave it out for bait with a "Danger" sign. It should only burn the thief enough to never steal again. Plus you can always say that there was a problem with your car and that is why you put the "Danger" sign near it to warn people. It was not your fault that some idiot tried to steal it.
what if there is a group of car theives and you go out there with a baseball bat and they just beat your ***, and steal your car at the same time what would you do?

easy.. prepairation is the key, fight fire with fire, the best tactic when your at war is the element of suprize
That's how they steal your car (by suprizing you) so we'll beat them at their own game. besides, if their inside cracking the column and 10 HTers run up in black clothing, they'll think were cops.
As for protection, that's also easy..
