I'm not sure what kind of an alarm you got (must be aftermarket though), but I guess you can find the brain if you follow the wire from LED. It'd be better to ask that on alarm forum though, you'll get more answers.

I had an alarm in my car that I didn't even know about. My battery one day died and I slammed my door and a ******* alarm went off. I looked around cause I didn't know where it was coming from and I was coming out of my wheel well. The speaker for it was by that reservoir thing for the stock intake, shitty place IMO. Turned out to be some cheap **** alarm, so I replaced it with a VIPER one.

The brains for it was behind my dash under the steering collum. More towards the Fusebox by the door. The switch is a vallet switch, if you flip it with your keys in it will stop. Depending on the alarm you can leave the door open and flip it to and it will stop it from randomly going off, at least in mine it did.

No! This is a sensor, but it will lead you to the brain if you follow the wire. Disconnect the brain's main plug if you don't want the alarm. But I'd recommend figuring out how this thing works and use it to PROTECT your car!

If the mechanic disconnected the Battery while the alarm was armed the car would have sensed that it was being tampered with and must have a battery back up, if that's the case the alarm is probably out of synchro and would need resetting. Not sure of this but if you take off the Neg lead of battery and hold that button by the hood popper, and get a friend to replace the Neg cable back on battery while you hold the button it may work ? not sure but it's worth trying.

Find the brain following the wires as suggested. Unplug it and make sure your car will still start (some are wired up not to start if it is disconnected), and if it does you can yank everything. Also, if you can figure out what alarm it is from the brain, you may be able to get another remote and make it work.

Many alarms will sound when you reconnect the battery, has nothing to do with a backup battery system.
