I have a 2000 CRV with 49K miles. About a week ago, the engine light went on and the computer said it was misfiring on cylinder 2.

Except it's not! The mechanic tuned the car and even adjusted the valves. Every test he can do says it is running perfectly. But the #&#% computer says its still misfiring on cylinder 2!

He showed me a service bulletin that says that aftermarket timing belts can, for some reason, cause this problem. But it's got a Honda belt on it so that doesn't seem to be it.

Could it be the computer itself? The sensor? This has already cost me a bundle and there's no end in sight. If I didn't have to smog the darn thing I'd just stick black tape over the light.

Any suggestions?

 

I know that it is expensive, but try a Honda dealer. Even though they will rape you they might be able to solve the problem.

Take it to a dealer, the warranty is just about up and if they say its is up, they may goodwill it. Alot of dealers will goodwill warranty stuff a little bit over the warranty cut off

 

Did you reset the computer after tuning and adjusting the valves to clear the code?? Yes I know its obvious, but sometimes it can be overlooked.

 

this happened to me @ 60,000, I had removed the resonator, and I though it had just tripped the MAF. However 60,000 miles later and few tickets for no inspection had autozone read the code and it was a catalyst bank 2 reading, so I changed the o2 sensors and light still didnt go away. So I had to buy a new cat, not from honda, some co in cali. Finally my light went away, got inspection everything was great. Just recently it came on again, havent had autozone read the code yet, but im pretty sure its the same thing. How annoying, I'm about to take the bulb out.

 

The only thing I could think of, would be the fuel injectors...then again, the crv I had was mis-firing???
