Default Front upper control arm

I was getting a creaking noise from the front left, it only happened when manouvering in tight spots where you'd blip the accelerator to get the car rolling and have to brake immediately, anywho it turned out to be the top control arm ball joint, basically it was done. I bought a set from a member here and although they werent brand new they didnt look to have done much mileage. I replaced the left one (only) and the creaking stopped and when i inspected the old one the ball joint had a load of loose movement in it. But now after less than 1000 miles the creaking has started again from the same side. Its not too bad at present but the other one started like this too. Could it have been that the one i got to replace the old one with had been lying for too long and putting it back on the car wore it quickly or could it just have been bad to start with? Or is there something else that could be causing them to wear out quickly. The car is lowered on spoon coilovers but its not slammed to the ground...this is really pissing me off!
