here's the dent.

cosmetic dent only. does not cause a loss or gain in performance (the dent).
JDM Jet hotted header.

No lie, this board is great. I asked a question over in the EF forum about suspension pieces and within a few minutes had this:

I dented up my Spoon header on a manhole cover. I was thinking of taking to one of those paintless dent removal shops to see if they could use a prying tool to work the dent out carefully without fatiguing the metal anymore than it already it. I think if they heat up the dented area first it should make the metal easier to shape, but I'm certainly no expert on metallurgy/welding/metal bending and all that shtuff. Where's Bender when you need him...

I'll post a pic of it if you want to see the carnage. I have no idea if it's hurting the peformance of my header. It's gotta disrupt exhaust flow somewhat, but to what extent I can only imagine. Maybe SMSP can tell us.

Maxi - who'd love to un-dentify his Spoon header

My old kooks header, I have had 2 of them and they both look like this now
Crushed 1 then patched then recrushed both.
If it wasn't crushed I would have sent it to the great header test.

I had a DC Sports 4-1 header in my old LS and looked just as bad if not worse !! I plan to get a JDM 4-1 for my ITR. Doesn't the bottom heat shield install to protect the header ??

Tom:

so Kook's did get a Honda header out. How did it run before the dents?

My question in general is : having done this...how would you guys prevent this in the future? Would you put a skid plate underneath? Not lower the car as much? stiffer springs with less compression on the shock settings? Any advice or insight as to how it happened and how to stop it from happening would be much appreciated.

cheers

AHHH, My mugen header is fixed and is back to normal working condition. Now I know it is possible to fix headers, all they did was super heat the metal and take the dent out, it was that simple. It saved me $975 and I happy as hell now. I will post pics soon

Hey, I have a similar dent (bigger though) in the resonator on my Mugen exhaust. Do you think they could fix that? Did you have to take the part off of your car?

I think the best thing to do is to either wrap them at the bottom or make some kind of a shield. just to be able to absorb some kind of impact. Of coarse check periodically.

the dent in my mugen header was HUGE, much bigger than the one in the picture. The tube was almost bent shut. But Bob fixed it so it is like new now. Its amazing. Call him up, he also MAKES headers!!!
