Default EXHAUST QUESTION

I HAVE BEEN FACED WITH A SITUATION THAT I DO NOT KNOW WHAT TO DO.. I LOST MY MUFFLER THE OTHER DAY AND I NEED A NEW ONE. FOR STOCK THE PRICES ARE REALLY HIGH 4- 8 HUNDRED FOR A NEW B PIPE AND A MUFFLER. HONDA WANTED 789, MONROE 489, AND MINIKEE WAS 569. WELL I WAS IN A SHOP HAVING MY ALARM LOOKED AT AND THEY HAVE A (RACTIVE) ( I BELIEVE EXHAUST ) THAT WAS ABOUT THE SAME PRICE AS GOING TO HAVE A OEM STYLE SYSTEM PUT ON. I HAVE DONE A LITTLE RESEARCH BUT I HAVE NOT FOUND ANYTHING OUT. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.. IT IS 400.0O FOR THE B PIPE AND THE EXHAUST ALL STAINLESS, STREET LEGAL. IF IT IS NOT SOMETHING I SHOULD DO PLEASE LET ME KNOW BUT PLEASE EXPLAINE WHY IT A BAD IDEA.. OR IF IT IS A GOOD IDEA LET ME KNOW THAT. I BELIEVE THAT IS THE NAME ON THE EXHAUST BUT WHEN I CALLED HE SAID IT WAS A GREDDY.. PRICE SEEMED A BIT LOW FOR A GREDDY THOUGH.. PLEASE HELP. APT IS SET BUT I CAN STILL CANCEL.

IF THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. PLEASE SUGGEST WHAT I SHOULD DO.. THANKS

try not to use caps for a starter......

so they want $400 for an axel back exhaust????...thats a rip off....id suggest you just prucahse and Apexi WS catback exhaust....you can probably find one for a similar price, and its a much better unit

Opps- sorry about the caps. I did some resarch on apxi but I have to say that I want to stay away from the large tips. My wifes celica is the car that we are working on- mine has 211K miles on it and I really just need it to get be back and forth from the office. Any other suggestions? You are correct on the price though. 409.00 with free shipping.. Thanks again for you help.. ( all places here were only doing an axel back- not a cat back. A cat back is 600 stainless and over 1000 from honda..

apexi WS looks pretty much like a stock muffler (just not a honda stock muffler)....and its one of the quietest ones on the market.....more expensive, a bit louder, but OEM replica is teh Thermal R&D....thats a very good system

I went to exhaust pros and got mandrel bent cat back and a magnaflow muffler installed for 250....

If you're just looking for a muffler check out the rsx type-s muffler I believe it is 2.25" down to 2" then to the muffler (axle back) and that would be a quiet "upgrade" or you can also check out http://www.kteller.com .

What sound does this system make as well as how hard is it to install? I have done many exhausts on celica's but never on a honda-even better one that still has the original spring bolts to the cat pipe ( 10 years old) .. Will the apexi ws bolt right up?

I personally try to stay away from brands like Pacesetter, Ractive, Toucan, etc.

I prefer to go with brands like Magnaflow of Flowmaster. They tend to flow just as well with a slightly deeper exhaust note. Nothing is as annoying as cruising down the road and having to turn your radio up to drown out your exhaust.

Dude not to be rude but I hope these shops are providing lube because they are raping you in the ***. The day I spend $400 on an exhaust is the day I will be getting a catback. I would not spend over $220 on an axle back. My stock muffler was done at the Honda dealer that is known for over charging for $250. It was just the muffler I think though. I personally wouldn't buy a Ractive exhaust as they are made by Toucan who is just another APC type brand. I like some APC stuff like there foglights seem ok for the price but there is much better stuff out there. I would install it myself. Isn't the tip on the Ractive exhausts huge? I have seen some and they are ricer mufflers that don't add any power and make it sound like a go-cart. I would get a quote from like a muffler shop installing a Magnaflow or something. I personally really like Apexi and like Magnaflow a lot also and I like Greddy ok. I know people that love Greddy's and I have nothing against them they just seem like more rice to me. I would get the Apexi if your going to spend $400.

Wow. I got a brand new stock replacement cat-backfrom NAPA for only $250. There was no installation but it was real easy and if you can do it thats the way to go.

Has it been driven much in the winter? If you have it may be rusted shut. my car was a 2000 accord and my bolts were rusted shut. You can do most of this swap yourself. If the bolts are rusted shut and you can't take them off, youll have to get a bolt cutter. You can rent power ones from a local hardware store, or you can buy the little kits like these:

Oh, and good choice on the WS2. I have no complaints, it is an excellent performer. Made for daily driving.

So far so good.. Well as I previously posted I orderd the ws. Good thing I went with the cat back. This weekend I blew a hole in the post cat pipe. I would have been really pissed if I had spend 400 on a axleback and had the fn pipe go two days later..

Bolts here we go again with the saga- So far so good.. I crawled under my old lady ( my car) yesterday to try to remove/loosen the bolts.. Well I got them out - just not the way i was anticipating. The bolts ( two of the three broke in half) Well that is good to get them off but we will see if I can reach the last one.. It is up in bfe on top of the pipe.. Oh well one to go..

Some stores are great. I ordered my apexi (by the way how do you pronounce that ) apex or apex e ? I have heard both. I order the cat back on sunday for 413.50 shipped.. Not bad. It will be here tomorrow.... That kicks a$$. hopefully everything will come intact and I can get it rolling this week. May have to wait till sat am. But it will be on by NExt week. Good think I have a headache from my three hopes in my pipes.. LOUD as F and not that much fun to drive.. The funny thing is that there are louder pipes out there that we actually pay money for..

Anyway i will keep you all posted on how it sounds/ performs over stock.

have a great one

That sucks about your exhaust, but youre right, all the more reason!

You should be happy with it, i'm very happy with mine and i dont attract any of the wrong atention. If youre worried, you can just get a shop to weld a new tip on the muffler- but I wouldnt it looks so sexy
