If the CEL is doing 7 long flashes, then code 70 = auto tranny problems. That fits with the D4 light blinking, too...
When you read the CEL code, was the D4 light blinking out it's own code at the same time? Whatever it is, maybe you'll need a Helm manual for some detailed procedures. My '98 book probably doesn't apply to your '96.

Trans codes only go to 15. Seven short blinks is Code 7. Long blinks are severals secs.
Code 7 is a problem w/ the Shift Control Solenoid Valve A connector, wiring, or faulty solenoid. You can check for voltage to the solenoid (5V), and resistance of soleniod (12-24 ohms). The shift control solenoid is located on the outside of trans on pax side. It's a pair of solenoids bolted to the trans housing. There are two identical pairs. The Shift Control solenoid is the lower pair.
A Honda manual may be necessary to resolve this problem.
good luck

The CEL is giving a code 70 which is (as stated above) and in my 96 accord helms manual, indeed a faulty transmission code. Once again how many times does the drive light blink. It should be giving its own seperate code. Is it giving seven blinks too?
short blinks 1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1
long blinks 1---1---1---1---1---1---1
a cel code 12 for example would be 1---1-1
Hope this helps.

For tranny problems often the engine light blinks 70 while the tranny D4 light blinks its own code.
My '98 book has a couple tranny codes above 15, so that's another reason to be careful about having the Helm manual (or code list) for the right model-year.
