2005 RL, driven!
The first two 2005 RLs came into my dealership today! Silver/Ebony and Red/Parchment.
The 300 horse is nice, but not as aggressive feeling as the TL. The paddle shifters are nice, but it's still got the shift speed of the 04 TL in sportshift mode. The grip is unbelievable, the ride is MUCH smoother than the TL, and it definately feels heavy, but nimble.
The navigation is incredibly nicer than in any other Acura. It's taking a little while to get used to, but the ability to say a street name now is great!
Exact tire pressures for each corner, the SH-AWD torque display is very distracting, but in a great way. Watching the majority of the power going to the left rear wheel in a spirited on-ramp jaunt.
The rear power sunshade is cool, the rears have manual ones, but they tuck away nicely.
Overall, it's AMAZING! Most people's gripe, not sure if I see it this way... It's REALLY not much bigger than the TL. When people upgrade a car class, you expect a bigger car, no?
I suggest going and looking at them, they're a sight to see.

Please do.

I drove a new RL today too. It's a nice car, but the performance was not quite what I hoped it would be. It's not bad, but it's acceleration is no match for the TL.
On the other hand it's light years ahead of the old RL. Feels very solid, nice handling and brakes, power just ok though for $50k.

you said it had a sportshift mode which im assuming that means it has an automatic. im hoping for the tuners' sakes it has a 6 speed option. but i have seen them and they look very nice. didnt get the pleasure of a close-up though. i just saw it on the road-side spaces on the lot while stopped at a redlight.

sense the car is not geared towards "tuners" in any way, i doubt you will ever see a manual RL (unless they bring back the coupe...)

That navigation is UNBELIEVABLE! It's going to take a lot more playing with to really get a grip on it. SO many voice commands, it's sick! The audio BLOWS the TL away, don't let anyone tell you different. Only problem is the rear sunshade rattles sometimes
I've got to get my camera back, because my cell takes HORRIBLE pics.
Hopefully soon guys...

what other car in its class can give you 300 hp for 50k? the engine is very tweaked considering, infiniti and lexus need a v8 to acheieve 300hp. on top of that, the new 3.5 adopted the 3cylinder shut down system thing. (forget the correct name.. ) on top, did anyone see the optional NIGHT VISION? i don't think its really usefull in america, but in japan, it must be really nice to have.
for honda's new legend.

I'm not downing the RL by any means, I own a Legend myself. My point is that as far as a seat of the pants impression goes, the car doesn't feel quite as strong as I would expect from 300hp. The TL feels stronger to me and is $15k less, I had read somewhere that Acura's goal was for the RL to outperform the TL. I think the weight of the car with the awd, etc makes it feel less powerful than it is. Nice vehicle either way.

brand new motors are not always producing the full power, takes a little time for them to "loosen up". also, the car is a bit heavier than the TL and puts power to 2 more wheels.
however, our E320 4matic with a 225hp V6 and 4wd seemed about as good as a new TL i had the other day for a loaner (thanks jody wilkinson acura for the sweet hook-up). but, it's got more torque.
my point is that it's all in the gearing, age of motor and weight of vehicle.

Every seen the under side of one? It looks like an nsx... all aluminum, even the rear diff case. Another thing, you dont need to hit the unlock button on the fob to unlock the doors. When you walk up to the car, it senses that the fob is near and you just have to pull on the handle and it automatically unlocks. When you get out, there is a little pressure spot on the door handle that you hit and it locks the doors. Try locking the fob inside the trunk or in the interior. The trunk will automatically repop and the doors wont lock if its inside. The navi screen is incredibly clear and the sound system sounds top of the line. There is a waiting list for the RL at my work which has about 35-40 people waiting for them (Frankel Acura in Cockeysville, Md. As said before the car doesnt feel any faster than the tl but it could fly past a tl on a windy road. I took an exit ramp that normally cant be handled by anymore then 80-90mph in a tl and i took it at around 115 in the rl and it felt soooo solid. The car is just about the same size as a tl but the features on it knock the tl out of the water.
