New Car Decision and Potential
Writing this real quick before I head to sleep. I was originally interested in cheap speed, as to buying say a 97 eclipse GST but unfortunatley parents won't allow me to get a sports car.. in that sense. Weird thing is they dont seem to have a problem with a Prelude or an Integra. Heres the dilehma.. as of right now im looking at a 98 integra GSR with 87k miles on it for a little under 8 grand.. at the same time there is a 99 prelude for roughly a thousand dollars more and has only 75k miles on it.. My questions are:
1. Which car seems to be the better preformer stock
2. Which car has the most potential with no more then 3k invested in aftermarket
3. Which car is the better deal
4. Which if any other car out there around the same price range is similar or better
5. Also which of these cars is more reliable.. since they are both around 80k miles, how much longer should they last and is it worth investing a great deal of money into either engine.
Thanks

Are you sure that a lude is just as fast as a Eclipse GST? i find that hard to believe... and ive done some research and if i remember correctly the eclipse is much quicker.. maybe your talking bout 1/4 mile times.. but i know 0-60 gst is much faster.. anyways thanx for input.. does anyone else have any idea.. all will be appreciated.
well, gst, means boost, some cars run a long time with boost and not a problem. Others, do not. Turbo goes out and blam, you have to pay to rebuild, new or who knows. that is something to consider.
As for what i would get, i'd get the prelude, stylish, not everyone has one, classic wannabe. H22 all the way, and best of all, this bitch is nice when autox.
So, go ahead and see what you want. Modswise, the prelude i drove compared to an integra(POS) was way superior, ride, handling, performance.
Insurance, it should be lower than an integra, and please get a 5 speed one, no auto.
I am on my 2nd automatic transmission and next summer she will be a 5 speed monster.
So good luck.

not on a GS-T. the GS-X had AWD, but the GS-T was FF.
the GSR is lighter, so it'll be better for handling type applications. otherwise it's mostly a wash, with the prelude having a little more *****.

Wow thanks alot for the input guys.. yah its a 99 honda prelude s, manual, loaded... with 75k miles on it.. think ill go that way.. integra feels a little cheap inside.. reminds me almost of driving in the old 89 preludes.. good for their time but seems outdated for the cost of an integra... before i finish this post can anyone reply maybe where to get started with a prelude.. what are some good beginner mods that wont get me joked lol.. i did some reading and apparently no 3inch exhaust =0(.. 2.25 to 2.5 unless i eventually go turbo or something.. though the N/A route seems cool thats obviously to much money considering no more then 3k mod budget. Again thanx for the input everyone.
Have you thought about the 4th gen Prelude VTEC? I would choose a 5th gen prelude over a GSR. the Prelude is just as fast as a GST and GSX stock for stock according to magazines.
Hmm I just looked around and from what i read it says stock 97 eclipse spyder GST does 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and the quarter mile in 15.4... it said the 99 prelude does 0-60 in 6.8 seconds and the quarter in 15.3... i dont know if that site is right because other sites have said 6.9 -7.1 0-60... anyone have some official numbers? i know depending on drivers and just the quaility of cars there will be slight variations.. but anyone have anything official to post.. also even though we are talking about the GST thats not what im getting, not able too.. im looking at a 5th gen 99 lude manual with 75k miles on.. you guys are talking about 4th gens.. what makes 4th gens so great? Are you telling me i should get a 4th gen over a 5th? Thanx again all, very helpful.
get the GSR sooo many more options, but yeah GST and prelude depends on whos driving really if theyre a good driver then the GST is faster, but get the GSR GSR=8k redline sooo hot haha
prelude will handle better, look better and torque more
GSR however, has a lot more options. parts will be cheaper since they share a lot with civics, and B series engines have an *** load more options then H series.
We're rare and special

yea..the 4th gens are actually faster than the 5th gens. the 5th gens body is overall a little better, but i can't stand the frontend / headlights.
the h22 has an 8k rpm redline as well, it just has to be unlocked.

no, it doesn't handle better than a DC2, by sheer virtue of the fact that the dc2 weighs 2600 lbs and the prelude weighs a couple hundred more than that (2850 4th gen, 2920 5th gen)
preludes handle very well, and produce more torque (vs. "torquing more"), but the gsr has way more aftermarket options. the $300 itr LSD comes to mind, or custom control arms, or skunk2 style camber kits, etc etc.

The answer is duhhhh 5th gen lude yo....I say stupid pics never do 5th gen lude justice, for some reason 5th gen ludes look hell of a lot better in person than in pics in my opinion, well at least in most pics. Just compare them from the back, the lude looks wider and sexier, nice lines, and the headlights/front end ain't that bad, specially form a straight up front view, no 3/4 view and not from a low angle either. Just stand in front of it maybe 4 feet away or so, I say it looks bad ***, the lines on the hood matches the headlight shape and flows good plus the sides near the wheels sticks out too to make it look wider, plus just look at body style, Ludes are sexy yo, shape of windows, rear bumper, etc. The GSR ain't bad lookin also, I actually like it too, but they're more common..well maybe not gsr's but integs in general. Oh yeah and one more thing about looks since people are talking about front ends, who looks likes the shape of integ hoods anyways, NOT ME..not the front part cuz the line jus goes straight from side to side, the hood is like a plain ovalish square shape, kind of reminds of them square shape tunda cans. now integ owners are gonna hate me haha but don't I still love those too but...PRELUDE all the way!!!!! other car's use our engines, we don't use theirs!!!!!!!!

No eclipses are RWD theyre either GST FF or GSX AWD
