Question on Car Longevity
OK, so I went for my e-test little less than a month ago, and although I passed no problem, when looking at the numbers they were getting up there - it'll be risky if i have to do it again in 2 years...
---Keep in mind this is my all year daily driver... it's a 91 civic cx, automatic. It's a rarity that i'll pin it and open it up fully - i feel that i'm just beating up my car.
But apperently it's good to do it regularly... gets rid of the carbon build up.. too late on my car...
and thats why a few trusted mechanics recommeded a Carb-Cleaner(can buy at Canadian Tire and it's the same stuff you buy at a shop.) The one where you spray it into the Air Intake while reving the eng a bit and that removes all carbon build up (makes alot of smoke too!? ).
What do you know of this??
It was also recommended that I put in higher quality gas, or a mix of regular and 92, as that would slow the damage to my head gasket.
With prices they way the are, i'd rather not pay 95c a liter... Any additive I can add myself?
What else would you guys recommened to keep the civic running tip top?
Plugs are about a year old, Fuel Filter is about a year old, over this summer I flushed my coolant (next year get a power purge i think), I drained my tranny fluid aswell this summer.
Going to change Cap/rotor, wires, oil, might go get a valve adjustment, and do this carb cleaner stuff.
What Else?
I shouldn't need to do any of the belts yet, as they were done within an acceptable time frame ago.
Thanks guys.

what a fantastic response....
However what I was asking was more along the lines of preserving the head gasket with a carb-cleaner, or putting in higher quality fuel.
Or anyother misc. things that are less then common?
