someone help me out here...broke down today
was driving to go to charlotte today and was about 100 miles into the trip when i noticed a pinging sound...so i pressed down on the gas to pass someone so i could pull over on the left and the car didnt move at all...i was at full throttle and the car wouldnt go past 4000rpm...finally got off onto the side and the car shut off...water temp was ok and the car wasnt overheated...popped the hood and no fumes but the water reservoir was filled to the brim and bubbling...no coolant leaking or anything and the engine was not scorching hot or anything...i could put my hand on the valve cover and the radiator cap for a decent amount of time...i looked at fuel psi and its set at 60, but the gauge said 40psi...that was weird to see, so dont know what that is about...checked the oil and it was between the 2 circles but it was black and i use synthetic, i just changed the oil on friday in the car...it only had 300 miles on the new oil and it was black, what does this mean...went to start the car up and dead, wont even come close to turning over...so towed it back and now i am clueless as to what it is...you guys have any ideas...any help at this point would be appreciated
Start tearing the engine apart. Pull the head, as well the oil pan baffle etc. to see what damage has been done.
Judging by what you have said I would say its the head gasket. If so, the question
is why. Detonation can cause the gasket to fail. Do a compression and leakdown
test. Then get back to me.
will be doing that first thing in the morning....around 7am....i will get up you later by phone as we have some other business as well...i just dont understand, the car was absolutely running fine then i got the oil changed and now this happens a day and a half later...and no i am not going to start ripping this thing apart...yet that it
