Don't attempt to drive faster than the owner!
So I went sunday driving at the NASA auto-x today to make sure I got rid of my hopping problem. I haven't
Well I managed a 61 and change. Car was still too wild, since it was still setup for the track. Tires weren't right, hawk blues were cold as stone, and the shocks weren't right either, and I left the silly Koni knobby thing clear across the lot.
So Drew (Cobra) and I swap cars for a run, and on his second run he pulls off a 59 and change. Grr. Alright Mr. Tirewarmer, time to open up a can of whoopass. 57.8 with some fun sliding around a loop at the far end. It was pretty cool since it was dusk and my hawk blues were giving off a nice little sparkler show
So you see, never (attempt to) drive faster than the owner, cuz word will get out, and you'll never get to borrow cars

It was at VMP. Cool lot since it's so huge, and there's generally nothing to hit.
Generally... Though there was a porkchop today that tried to take me out

I think it's most interesting to note that Warren brought his Integra out, and there was no rain!!! In fact, it was great weather, especially for December.
FWIW, I only managed a 60.5 on street tires. It's the first time I've competed in my own car since the middle of August!
I did take Scott Hoffman's (Conemasher) Civic out on some fun runs -- what a tough car to drive fast!

Propz to Warren for pulling that run out of his ***. Might I just point out that Warren has had his car how long? It took him 5 runs to beat what I did in 2. Hmmmm . . . I wonder what I could have gotten with 3 more runs?
Kinda makes you wonder doesn't it?

Exactly! That's why I was 1/10-sec slower than MaddMatt in his own car at the NASA Summit-JC timetrial in Sept. I was sandbagging so he would let me borrow it again, which he did.

Jon
(who honestly *wishes* he was as fast as MaddMatt)

LOL, first time I've run the WRX on asphalt since August, been about a month and a half since I last autoxed. 2nd time I've autoxed the Pantera ever, first time was basically once last year.
I think I had a 60.3 or 60.4 during timed runs and a 59.3 on the one fun run I took in the WRX. That car desperately needs tires that are not all-seasons. I'll have to check tomorrow morning and see if I actually have any rubber left on the stock tires. As for the V8 beast... it was very amusing to drive. More amusing since my feet kept getting hung up in the tight footwell and lead to a huge smokey 360 after I lost the back end and physically could not get my foot out of the gas
BTW, it is a serious trip to drive behind that car on the way home. You get to watch it billow flames and have those exhausts glare at you in glowing red like 2 pairs of evil eyes. Must say, I had a TON of fun today. Kudos to Karen and NASA for putting on a great event and Pat for the course design!

I second that had a great time and the course was fun!!
Karen and Pat worked very hard to make it work. I just wish I could drive.
We well see if the school can help.

It's Monday morning, and I am still completly amazed that Warren showed up in the Type R(ain), and we didn't get any rain!!
Yes, a very good event. Even the Celicas and Corvettes stayed mostly straight (all the sheet metal stayed straight, there were some moments where they were directionally challenged).
When can we expect http://www.nasaracing.net to be working again? I'd love to see some results.

If I get some time, I'll do provisional results tonight, and I'll post them on my own website. I'll send out an email.

Well, I had a great time as well! I borrowed Felton's Kumhos and ran with R tires for the first time in my car... And definitely learned about cold R tires... I was quite sideways in the first three corners of my first run...
I ran on street tires during fun runs and ended up with a difference of about 2 seconds (raw: 59.4 vs. 61.6, clean: 60.2 vs. 62.2). I was a little frustrated that I couldn't manage to get within .8 seconds of my best raw time without paying homage to the construction gods so my goals for the next couple of months are CONSISTENCY, CONSISTENCY, and, um, CONSISTENCY.
Overall, a good event, absolutely perfect weather (Thanks Warren!!) and a very well run event thanks to Pat and Karen!

I love it when somebody beats me in my car...as long as it is during fun runs!
....they must be clean and on course, however!
On another note, it really hurts to hear what a POS your car is from EVERYONE that drives it!
Karen great event as usual! I had another phenomenal time!
