some one help me out bad ticking/knocking.

Its almost to deep sounding to be a tick but not quite hard enough to be a knock. Also it sounds like its coming from the intake side of the head but there car isnt running funny its just ticking. (last time i bent a valve my car sounded like a wrx). So this time I took the valve cover off to examine to see if a bolt came off (has happend before) but that wasnt the case this time.
So here is the rundown of what happend. I stopped by my buddys shop (bpr) and another buddy of mine was dynoing a car. He asked to use my plugs to dyno his car (turbo gsr) to figure out if thats why the car was spuddering. I let him use them for a run or two but then i had to leave. The plugs were iridium 24's i believe (2 steps colder for nitrous) He offered to buy them off me for the price i paid for them. So out of the kindness of my heart i sold them to him figuring i would just pick up some the next day of work. I drove home on his stock plugs that made my car spudder really bad. I had to drive 20% throttle the whole time only to 4 grand. I wasnt that worried cause i was just driving home, then driving to work. All driving in total =15 minutes. So i made it home fine. The next day i wake up and its raining..... crap I hate driving my car in the rain. So Im driving to work.........in the rain and its spuddering just like last night. I start goin up a steep hill and my car boggs out and white smoke poors from my exhaust for about 3 minutes then is gone. But it started ticking right away and hasnt stopped. My guess is i couldnt tell I sucked up water because my car was spuddering and boggin anyway. And i drove with water in there. Does this sound like a correct theory???????? Please give me some Ideas on what you think happend........please take into concideration all facts of story... my friend seems to think it might have been the spark plugs.... I have never heard of a stock compression car blowing a motor from bad plugs.....(yes i did take them out and inspect them) what should I do? what do you think happend thanks for the responses... and if you have no ideas please bump

took of the head yesterday.. didint see anything wrong... did a leak test valves seemed fine...
