My oil is dissappearing...but im not sure how....experts please help!
Ok.as you can tell by my name i have a 90 crx si with the 1.6...(d16a6)This car runs great but my oil just seems to be dissappearing at an insane rate.I dont think a car could burn oil as fast as this car gets rid of it.I know it doesnt leak it because it has a new oil pan set and a new rear main seal and a new valve cover set.not to mention there is no sign of oil on the engine anywhere.Im pretty sure its not the valve seals because when i start it the exhaust color is fine and no funny smells come out....This is when its cold in the morning. The exhaust smells like a normal exhaust would smell. But as the engine gets warmer the exhaust starts to smell funny. When i take off i dont really notice any blue smoke come out of the tail pipe.I have had cars that burn oil and it is very noticeable, but with this i cant quite see where it goes,it jsut dissappears and the exhaust smells kinda bad.Im not sure if its the rings or the pcv valve or what it is but its getting annoying and let me tell you this car qoes through alot of oil.My dad and i are going to do a compression check on it to see what the deal is but when i shut the engine off it shuts right off with no problem.I want to adress this problem because its the only problem with the entire engine...everything else has been dealt with.I hope this is just a minor problem. When i do my next oil change i plan on using a bit heavier oil and this product called "restore".I have heard good things about it.Anyhow thats it and if anyone can help me that would be great.I really need it.thanks.Ryan. p.s- how important is it that the fuel filter be changed? p.p.s- there is a funny shaking/vibration coming from the rear of my car...i was thinking it was the tire because it only happens over 45 mph and the tires are old as dirt.anyhow thanks in advance...peace.
Do a compression test and that should tell you the condition of each cylinder. Let us know the results. I have a feeling that's where your problem is.
If the piston rings are worn the you can use 50W racing oil and that will decrease the oil consumption.

I personally would do a leakdown test. pull your plugs and "read" them if it has white ash like deposits, then it is burnin. also check to see if your pcv is not stuck. sometimes it gets stuck and you suck oil right into the intake if its stuck, clean it out with some carb. clean. HTH

too add, the fuel filter is pretty important to prevent debris and what not from your gas tank from getting in the injectors. and if they are clogged they will either give you shitty gas mileage or eventually they might seize up. in the helm's manual the recommendation for this service is 60,000 miles
and for your tires, it sounds like they need to be balanced.

me and my dad are going to do a compression check this weekend....hes good with cars
As for the pcv valve im going to check that also...my dad mentioned something about that.As for the fuel filter im doing that this weekend also.As for the tire, the vibration is coming from the rear tires. There is one new one and one old one....i think the belts in the old one are messed up cuz it only starts to vibrate past 50....Um....as for the oil weight...i use 15w40 delvac super which is a synthetic diesel oil....my dad recommended it cuz he owns big trucks.Should i use the 50w racing oil?i also considered use of this product called restore...anyhow lemme know what you think ok?thanks-ryan.
