i just hit my rev limiter...im really worried about my poor D16Y8...am i beaing paranoid? Should i listen for any changes with my engine? Please help
hmmm, you should be fine. I'm pretty sure everyone here has zinged their rev limiter every now and then. As long as you're not purposefully doing it all the time. Besides, it's just a D-series. The sooner it goes, the better
jk, hehe.

Haha, i know the D-series is looked down on, but i love my D16. Thanks for the help, and, do you know of any sounds or strange behavior i should watch out for

rev limiters serve a purpose, they prevent your car from over-revving (doing damage to the engine) try to avoid hitting the rev limiter because like I said it only prevents damage, if you abuse it, you lose it. Or you could get a chipped ecu, and remove the rev limiter, then you wouldn't have to worry about it.....

Hell, I do it a few times a week. There are some autoX courses where I'm on it for a few seconds. My motor still has factory spec compression with virtually no spread in the numbers at 100K. Rev it baby!

on you, just because a rev limiter is removed, doesnt mean you dont have to worry about it. removing a rev limiter is useful only for engines that can handle revving past the factory rated redline. so to sum it all up, if a rev limiter is removed, it doesnt mean you can rev higher without modifications to the engine.

Momentary spike on the rev limiter should pose no problems - constantly holding it on redline, will result in some very serious problems and ultimately failure.
You guys crack me up. I've held my Y7 on the limiter for seconds at a time on purpose, on more than a dozen occasions. 110,000 on engine and nothing wrong with it. What the hell do you think a 2-step is?

I've hit in all of my cars occasionally, it's not a big deal. It's nothing that I would worry about at all. Although, sometimes it seems like it's very hard on the engine, it's not as bad as it seems. The rev limiter in the RSX Type S feels scary the first time you hit it, but your D16 will be ah-ight yO! Like everyone else has said, just try not to do it all of the time.

I'd like to hope you're not spooling at the rev limiter, if you are, your turbo is way too damn big. you should hit full boost at 4,000 rpm at the most unless its a fully built race engine.
you dont want to hit rev limiter while boosting though, as the stock rev limiter is a fuel cut and hitting fuel cut at full boost will cause major damage. This is why an MSD 6aL is a good investment. Ignition cut rev limit doesnt cause many problems.
