Default final rebuild questions

Ok i finally got a leakdown test done on my 96 GSR
Bad news...rings are toast like i expected.
With a rebuild costing $1200 bucks the guy mentioned i should do it myself.
Did a headgasket before could be that bad...

So if you guys wanna clear up the process a lil more id love to hear it.
This is what i gather from research on here.

Pull the head. No brainer. Did it before. This time ill replace the intake mani gasket too.Especially since its only 5 bux.

Drop the pan and the girdle disconnect the rod bolts and pop out the pistons from the top.

Rent a honing bit (three stones)from Autozone. Get the right honing stones.

Since i am using OEM rings what grit is suggested?? I hear so many variations. Lube it with ATF or honing fluid.

Does anyone have more specific instructions how to do it?? I know this will bring up the bring it to a machine shop etc debate but i am goin to do it by hand.

Clean the cylinders with brake cleaner

Next is Rings....Since i am just honing do i hafta go to bigger size pistons or rings? I dont think so. I hear the honing only accounts for about a .001 if done right. Right??

Put the ring an inch from the bottom and use feeler gaugesand ring filer (recommendations on where to buy?) to get it within spec.
Place rings in correct configuration with helms diagram.

Use assembly lube place all the pistons in with a funnel style ring compressor (Where do you get this style compressor?)

Bearings- I am very confused. Can i just get the color codes from the rods and throw 'em in. I guess i cant preorder them then if i dont want to wait for shipping.
Other wise is it just trial an error with and ACL bearings and plasti gauge?

Many questions I just need a few specifics. TIA

when doing piston ring filing make sure you measure the end gap at a little under the top of the cylinder and at the bottom... get a helms manual...shows how to do it all...i can get u specs on torque settings if ud like.. if you wanted to take it to a machine shop...honda sells specific oversized pistons and rings...if you wanted to spend the money... how many miles were on it?
