std hb 4spd to 5spd conversion
No trouble at all and all you need is a working 5spd DX or Si tranny.
If you don't know how to do it I highly recommend a professional installation. If you think you can pull it off it's not an extremely difficult installation but I'd put it at a 5-6 out of 10 on the difficulty scale. I also recommend replacing your clutch and replacing/resurfacing your flywheel while you're at it. You'll be very pleased if you do so.
Cars that some with the tranny you need:
88-91 CRX DX
88-91 CRX Si
88-91 Hatchback DX (*some are still 4 i think it was an option*)
89-91 Hatchback Si
88-91 Sedan DX/EX/LX (not sure which came with manual option)
Other models will fit as long as they're cable and for a D-Series engine. But watch out if you're going with different models. A Junkyard will have what you need.
Benefits of the Si tranny are obviously better acceleration, but the highway RPMs are higher than the DX transmission. I put the 5spd CRX DX transmission onto my 1988 STD and there was both performance and milage increases. I don't even know why honda bothered making that 4spd. The only benefit is city driving milage. And Americans do lots of highway driving so 5spd = best. I would crack down and try to find yourself an Si tranny, but a DX one works great as well.
I also am not sure about the axles if you go Si. Maybe someone else knows better. DX is direct swappage.
