Everything has it's place and it's time. I love the SOHC platform for learning on, and how it introduces a novice driver into the power fields. It is cheaper to work with and if you break something you wont have to shell a kidney out to pay for it. Now on the other hand if you want to making exponentially high numbers the DOHC platform is the way to go, but IMO only if you have the experience to play with it yourself. This is where all that tuning and playing with on the single cam's comes into action - you are in the land now where kidney's will be sold to fuel your "accidents" whether they be beginner's mistakes, bad luck, or just plain ignorance.

It's all a matter of how he can present his argument and how much background information he can gather. If this is some 500 word thing though

Ditto. SOHC "can" make some decent #'s and power...but if you want to play with the big boys...DOHC just takes the cookie.

what are the criteria? I think that everyone would choose a DOHC if they had the money & resources. Please define this a little better.....

Now you can't say that without backup information, that is just asking for a flaming.

Both motors kick *** lets get that established right now. The sohc has a lot of potential but you have be willing to dump some money into it. Yes their are people who have made 150whp with basically stock honda parts, but beyond 150whp.......Its also takes a great deal of money to get a considerable amount of power out of the single cam motors. Its all about displacement. Yes you can sleeve a single cam to a 1.8 or even a 1.9 liter, but that cost a lot of damn money. I also like the weight benefit of running the sohc also, in a track car it has big effect but on a street car, not really. I'm going to back up the sohc because it is the under dog. Theirs no need to make statements about the dohc because its a bigger, powerful, and more efficent motor. On a side note I have a dohc in my current hatch but I might be swapping a sohc back in if I can't meet certain weight requirements.

this is a good argument, . my vote still went with the DOHC's. hell, i had my little SOHC CRX supercharged for a long time and it was a blast. i surprised a lot of people with the "Little SOHC that could" as i used to call it.
but then i finally defected to the other side: DOHC CRX turbo.

both are great.. if ur like me and got a killer deal on my ****, then go dual cam like me .. i got a thermal catback, hasport billet mounts, hasport linkage, hasport wiring harness, ww rs kit, crx si seats, gsr console for 150 dollars.. then i got a gsr bottom/itr head, LS tranny for 1500.. the shell cost me 400 bucks.. cant beat that.... IMO.. i personally am a single cam fan, but i love how this car just gets up and goes..

best for what?!?!?! don't get me wrong, i have a single cam...but that was a stupid thing to say. yeah, sohc is lighter...but does that extra "luggage" the b16 carries make a difference when we're talking raw HP numbers?

sohc is better in some respects and dohc is better in others. they both balance out pros and cons depending on the person and what they're doing. Sorta the situation that i hear a lot that's along the lines of "do i swap a b16 or do i use that money for a d16y8 and homemade turbo kit?"

if it makes any difference, i might add that you can find used single cam motors VERY cheap in some cases. My buddy Sporkcrx on here picked up a used d16a6 for i believe it was $50. don't quote me on this though...
