Need some help. . .please read. . .
My friend is going to buy a 1990 accord LX automatic. I haven't looked at the car yet but here's the problem. . .
(she is on the phone telling me right now)
the car is not shifting right. . .supposedly there is something to the tranny that is connected to what I don't know. . .but her pops tell me that if it is disconneted it will work fine? anyway, I'm trying to get more info. . .any ideas?

Got more info. . .
The problem is that the tranny slips and is sluggish when the car is in drive. If you go thru the gears manually it works fine. Her dad was also telling me that the button on the side of the gear shifter (I'm assuming it's the OD but he calls it the supersport?) When you press it down the light comes on (OD light) but when you depress it the light will start blinking. . .I'm assuming that this is an error code. . .kinda like when you jump the ECU when you have a check engine light. Her dad thinks that by disconnecting the OD that the car will run fine. I'm thinking replace the tranny fluid. . .and see what happens. . .the car hs 177k miles on it. . .I don't see how disconnecting the OD will make the situation any better. . .any ideas?
Thanks,
Marc

Try unplugging the battery, put it back on, wait a few mins, then drive it around see if it's acting the same. Resetting it might work, I just have some concern about when you press the button to put it in gear, then the warning light engages.

supersport thing is the OD in the older models. when he takes off the supersport it probably blinks because it needs to be on. maybe he was going up hill. i have a friend who had the light blinking sometimes, and when i told her to press the supersport it was all good.

Im with the replace the tranny fluid with the proper fluid and if there is a magnetic pickup in the pan check for metal chunks, ifs its more than flakes the tranny needs repair/replacing. Visual inspection is the first step in troubleshooting.
