Default Vavle adj. gone bad

While doing a valve adjustment on my '98 LS I ran into a little problem. After adjustiing one of my exhaust valves I was tightening down the nut that holds the adjustment screw and poped out the rocker arm. Having no experience with rebuilding a valve train, did I do some damage? Also, is there a trick in popping that thing back in without having to remove the cam shaft? TIA

Default Re: Vavle adj. gone bad (Nfurno)

if you try to wedge it back in you might end up compressing the valvespring and unseating the valve keeper which sucks major ***.
i would if possible remove the cam and fix it that way.
If the keeper comes off the valve can fall into the head, you can loose the keeper, etc.
it is also hard to find the tools needed to reinstall the keeper w/o taking off the head (you need a snap on tool to do this or at least part of it....)
i had something simular (missing rocker arm that i tried to slide in w/o removing cam and it ended up popping loose the retainer long story short car was down for over a week.) happen on my DA teg
