89 civic sedan half shaft install problems???
I just put a new passenger side half shaft in. During the the test drive it slipped out of the transmission case just enough to disengage and left me stranded. When I got it home I climbed under and slid it back in but it won't stay in. Any kind of vibration against the suspension causes it to pull away about a half inch. There was no c-clip or wire retainer on either the old shaft or the new. The guy at the parts store said I had to shove it in until it clicks but I shove it in all the way against the case hard and it still backs out on its own.
Any help would be appreciated.

There's your problem, take it back to the parts store. Cuss someone out. Be sure to make a scene. The c-clip is what holds it in there and would make the click that the guy told u to listen for. Good luck

Okay great, but wouldn't there have been one on the old shaft as well? When I removed it I simply put a small prybar behind it and it slipped right out. I told the parts guy there wasn't one on the old one and he said it may have fallen apart???
Yea, thats odd. Definately shoulda been one there, its the only thing that holds the axles in there securely. If you look inside the hole u'll be able to see how it fits into the picture.
You were right on. I tackled this project with no knowledge of imported cars so I didnt know to look for a clip on the end of the shaft. It is small and went un-noticed when I removed it. Went back to the parts store and got the clip off my old shaft and everything is fine.
Thanks for your help.
Thanks for your help.
No problem. Did axles on my car a while back and on a buddy's last week. Ran into a few problems myself. I can do em in like 30 mins now lol.
That sounds about right after pulling mine 4 times Sunday before I finally got it right. With the car up and tire off I could pull it in about 10 minutes and vice versa
