best tranny ? for 89 rex with CTR - Turbo engine ?
well i got this crx.. no engine or tranny.. also its missing motor mounts / shift linkage / ecu
so i was thinking about putting a civic type-r with turbo in the crx along with skunk2 ecu and hondata.. and racing mounts .. should i just keep the tranny that comes with the civic type-r engine or is there another tranny i should get.. also im guessing i will be pushing about 300 hp or so maybe a little more with the bolt on's and anything i should replace in the engine to better handle the turbo ? besides the basic stuff .. what im getting at any known weak spots in that engine ?

1) Civic Type-R from this point on will be referred to as the B16B, and to turbo it out of the box you are looking at trouble. True it can be done, but the compression ratio is set up for a NA motor, not a Forced Induction. You will have to drop the compression simple enough. Now why the hell would you get a B16B motor when you are going to stop it from doing what it does so well? Just get a normal B16 or whatever generation you want and save yourself 2,000 - 3,000 dollars.
2) Skunk2 Ecus or anything that is just generic like that just get rid of. They just raise the redline past a safe point and dump fuel in randomly. And Hondata is a standalone system that works with your STOCK ecu, so they of course are incompatible. Good choice on engine management though, I will commend that but have you thought of the the free alternatives if you have computer know how? Ponder that for a bit.
3) Odds since our cars come with cable style transmissions you will want to have a cable style one also. If you get a B16B, the mated transmission will be hydraulic and now you have to deal with all that snazz. Again, I reference the first generation B16 which comes with a cable transmission.
4) And there are no such things as racing mounts unless you are talking about the compound the mounts are actually made out of. Good choice though would be some Hasports, and guess what? They even have a cable --> hydraulic mount kit just in case you do end up with a Hydraulic Transmission.
5) For General Turbo Maintence, think about larger injectors, possibly an upgraded pump, and guages up the wazoo to keep track of what you are doing. Beware of detonation and knocking -- those are what kill motors, not just boost -- and you will be fine.
If you need any more help, I'm in Coral Gables and always willing to lend a hand.
