weather affecting gas mileage?
i started to get pretty gas mileage a couple of months ago. maybe starting around march or april. i was getting 320 to the tank. since its starting to get really cold, my mileage has dropped. just on my last fill up, i got about 260-280. it might be going lower also. i also notice that when im driving, my gas gauge fluctuates alot. my brother says i should consider changing my O2 sensor. anyone having the same effect?

you are getting the normal gas milage(mine is the same, and some people i know too) And the weather is not supposed to affect gas milage too much, since there are Ambient temperature sensor (outside air temp) and BARO sensor (air pressure) they all send information to the computer regarding changes in weather conditions and PCM, in turn, compensates for that
well if this is true.......i dont understand what is going on with my car......when my bro first gave me the car i was getting around 320 on a tank. all of a sudden it dropped down to 220-240. it stayed at 220-240 for about a lil over a year or so. then recently this year. starting in march, i get over 300. this lasted for a couple of months. i believe up to the middle or september.
dont feel silly, i used to scratch my head at the same thing... it was summer and I would get 40 more miles per tank of gas as apposed to winter driving. If you think about it, how many people claim they get improved gas milage from ram air intakes after switching from stock...ive know quite a few. i really think the warmer air gives you better milage.

Don't forget that they (gas companies) change to a winter brand which has more methanol, which has less kenetic energy than gasoline. That'll be a bit of a problem for milage right there.

THat sucks</TD></TR></TABLE>
dude stfu ..lol...i pay $2.45 yes two dollars and 45cents......for ONLY 91 octane...haha focking gas is digging a hole in my pocket

Geez... you guys should check out what gasoline costs in Europe!!! You wouldn't be complaining about $2.50...
Fuel gauges can fluctuate for a bunch of reasons. Flaky connections in the gauge sender circuit, maybe the sender is going bad?? Important thing is, how many miles per gallon?? Miles per tank is completely bogus, without knowing how many gallons you get each time. The math isn't that difficult.
If you REALLY are getting less MPG, there's a ton of threads about that. It's not really winter yet, so it's not normal to get really bad mileage.
ps. The heater doesn't draw power from the engine like the AC does.

When is the last time you replaced your dist rotor and cap, spark plugs and wires, air and fuel filter, used some injector cleaner, and checked your tire pressure. So many things can cause you mpg to drop. As someone mentioned, winter gas causes you mileage to drop, but i believe it is to early for companies to be using winter formulations.

A cold motor burns more gas, it might be using a lil more gas on your cold startups since it takes longer to warm up... but... still.. not enough to affect it more than a mile or two...
