Default Adjusting coilovers?

Ok, I have the tokico r coilovers...they have the two perches that lock together when you tighten them against eachother with the two adjusting wrenches. My question is...I would like to lower the front down a little more. The coilovers have been on the car for a few months and have quite a bit of road gunk in the threading and on the perches. What should I use to clean them off to make sure that they will rotate freely when I adjust them? I will spray them off with some water....maybe even use a brush around the threading, but should I spray anything else on the perches or threading just to get them loose and rotating freely?

Thanks a ton in advance!

I figured it out...just brushed them with some soapy water...then rinsed. No trouble getting them apart. My car now sits half an inch lower. I love adjustability.
