Default Recent problem in civic fixed...does this make sense to you?

Hey all, i was the one who had the '94 civic ex with the swap of a '93 gs-r block with a '99 Si head on it and a shitload of other mods done to it...i had a post about it a while back cause i had a problem where eventually i could start the car and it sounded fine idling, but then trying to drive it, random bad noises came from underneath, the exhaust sounded terrible and ricey when it never used to, the car had NO power as in when i put it in first and started off, i would get maybe 5-10 mph worth of power to it and then i could slam the pedal to the floor and get no response, no power, no acceleration, nothing..until about 5 seconds of holding it to the floor, it all of a sudden gaines power a little bit and gets fast enough to shift to second...but as it finally gains that power, thats when the exhaust makes the horrible raspy, loud ricey noise...and then ur in second and it starts again with the no power, no acceleration no matter what u do.....and after a minute or two of trying to drive it, trying to get up the smallest incline or hill in reverse or going forward is like impossible...i was on a little incline to go onto a main road and i couldnt get enough gas to it to make it up the little hill and my car just rolled back and stalled lol....after all of this, me and my sorta mechanic friend tried a few things...we made sure the right, tight-fitting throttle cable was on and it was...we got a new fuel filter and switched it with the old one, but it didnt work...then i finally got it towed to a real mechanic the other day and after the first day of it being there, the guy called me and told me he was checking the timing or something and he had to change the timing belt because it was stretched out...and that basically fixed the car...he drove it and said it was "fast and ****" and seemed back to normal (ill be the judge of that since i know how great it used to be speed-wise and exhaust sound-wise)...and i have yet to find out if the vtec works and u can hear the oil catch pan distribute oil in high rpms of every gear....then ill know if its back to normal or not...but i havent gotten the car back yet cause hes checking a few more things..but anyways...does this simple timing belt change seem like it would fix my problem..it sounds legit but like i said i havent driven my car just yet....i cant believe after all the stuff we tried (like what i mentioned plus changing spark plugs, wires, and cap and rotor and distributor) that a stupid timing belt was the cause of all that power loss, etc....does this make sense to u experts? thanks guys (sorry for the long post but this car been a big deal for me lately )

It's called paragraphs, use them from time to time.

To answer your question, yes, the timing belt is a vital part of your vehicle. It will make your engine run like **** if the timing belt was stretched. Once the timing belt stretches, your cam gear skips a tooth or 2 or 3. Your timing was probably WAY advanced or WAY retarded, making your engine run like ***.

Bottom line, you ALWAYS need your timing to be within spec. If not, your engine is going to run very bad.

agree, if u changed out all your timing parts and the belt stretched your timing would be fu****, i had a simialr problem with my old 97 ex, goofing off one day and after about an hour i had nothing, i stalled just moving on no slope on the occasion once on a down hill slope, i had no idea what it was, brought it home ripped it apart nothing, brought to mechanic it was my belt he fixed it and it was back to normal, i belive it should come back perfect
