Default Getting LS-Vtec soon, opinions?

My EK recently got stolen but all they took were my air bags and engine (low mileage mini me). I've been going to a bunch of different mechanics and getting estimates on a new engine and installation and the most I've come up with is about 2,500~. I was thinking about getting a LSVtec from a local import shop (they buy salvage title/theft recoverys and build the motors up then sell them) for about 2k or so and dropping it in my self. Alot of people tell me if I take care of it and keep it under 4k rpm for about the first 5,000 miles it will be reliable and run pretty strong. What do you guys think? (extra 500 goes to bolt ons and maybe CTR steering wheel and passenger side tray for where air bags used to go)

EDIT: If you guys advise aginst LSVtec for the same price what would you recomend? I doubt I can find a decent GSR or JDM B16 w/LSD for the same price.
