Default 98' Accord Question bout idol???

WHAT UP EVERYBODY I'M NEW HERE, AND NEW TO THE ACCORD BUSINESS. BUT AM NOT NEW WITH HONDA'S (GOT S.I B16 VTEC).

ALRIGHT I WANTED TO KNOW WHATS WRONG WITH MY 1998 HONDA ACCORD EX 4DR, I JUST GOT IT AND IT TURNS ON FINE AND EVERYTHING, JUST CHANGED THE OIL, OIL FILTER, SPARK PLUGS, ROTORY, AND BASIC TUNE-UP THINGS, NOW THE PROBLEM IS THAT AFTER THE CAR BEING ON FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES THE CAR STARTS TO LIVE REV BY IT'S SELF, AND WHEN I GO INSIDE TO CHECK THE RPM , THE NEEDLE IS GOING UP TO 1 AND 2 ALL BY IT'SELF REPEATEDLY. VOOM, VOOM , VOOM ALL BY ITSELF WITHOUT ANYBODY STEPPING ON THE ACCELERATION, WHAT IS THE PROBLEM.

Have you checked how much coolant you have. Sometimes coolant being low can cause this. Is it pulling any codes?

wow...first off all caps is considered rude...thought i would let you know. what he meant was is the check engine light on? if so, is it throwing any codes? do a search on 'ecu codes' to find out how to pull it, or go to autozone or advanced and they can do it. dunno about your idle...i cant think at the moment and im tired, but do a quick search on rough idel and you will find some many threads on the subject. its a good idea to search before posting because a lot of this stuff has been covered extensively.

welcome to H-T

did you leave gas in the tank without treating it? gas could be bad.... did you change the oil before you fired it up? its a great idea to change the oil because it will gum up just like the gas will. i say put some fresh gas in it, and run it for a while, and blow all the old gas out....

that is not your check engine light...that is just a reminder to do a tune up or whatever...it will say that like every 12,000 miles or so. the check engine light will be orange (most likely), and will somewhat resemble an engine.

Idle speed cycling up/down as you describe can be caused by a massive intake manifold or throttle body air leak such as PCV not hooked up (I just did this so I speak from experience).

good luck

i noticed that, u know how when u open the hood to see the motor and i don't know what its called , i think it called the idle and when u push it , it revs the car. Well that thing when u push it in, the wire thats connected to it is kinda loose

also you see the reply i just put, thats not my motor just so you know, mine is a 1998 Honda Accord Ex. 4dr Ulev- Vtec i think, and it's automatic, so i wanted to know if it would be a good idea to put that little oil filter on the motor. Does it make the car perform better, and is it good to put on a automatic

i dont think your throttle cable being loose is the problem (although you should probably tighten it back up because youre probably losing a little throttle response from the slack). i agree with katyhonda that you probably have a vacuum leak somewhere.

The throttle cable should have a little slack and not be taught. There is an adjustment procedure for throttle cable.

good luck

u could have a bad TPS(throttle position sensor) , this would also cause the idle to jump up and down by itself every 1.5-2 sec intervals, when i was washing my engine I got water inside of it and fried it ...
