Default manually lifting power window

my window was down when my window motor went out. so my car is getting rained in. i'm pretty sure that the motor needs to be replaced (it's a 1998 civic ex). but i would at least like to have the window up until that happens. i cant seem to figure out how to gently bring it up. i don't want to break the window. i have removed the door pannel and can see the gear attached to the motor but it won't budge. can the window safely be raised manually???

my guess is that that becuase the motor is toast, its preventing the gear from moving at all.. just try and get something to prevent any rain from getting in unitll you replace the motor.
