tranny or computer???
It is my brothers ACCORD '94 EX first it started out that the break lights doesnt turn on when you heat the brake pedal ............. we checked all teh fuse and all are working but this time we cant shift from park unless we insert a key to the shift relaese slot then teh Accord can be drivealable ............. but you have to do this key insertion thingy each time you shift to park and wanted to shift out of park????????????? any idea whats the problem ????????????? the so called hodna mechanic in my loacl areas told me its a computer problem because i have a remote starter on my 94 accord EX ...... any suggestion???????? thanks
You probably have a defective or misadjusted shift lock solenoid in the console. If it's loose, it probably just needs adjustment. You will need the Honda Shop Manual that has a diagram to guide adjustment of the shift lock solenoid.
I didn't understand whether your brake light problem was fixed or not. The shift lock problem and brake light problem are not related.
If brake light is a problem, check the brake light switch which closes when the brake pedal is depressed. It may be defective. If that's OK, check bulbs in brake lights and check for voltage to the bulbs when brake is depressed.
good luck

the brake lights and the shift lock very well could be the same problem.Replace your stop lite switch up under the pedal and it should solve both problems being the shift lock is operated by the stop lite switch.

They sure could be related. It's usually the brake switch like Bill said, but if the horn fuse is blown it can cause both problems also.

anyone have a diagram on their comp or instructions on how to go about checking the shift lock solenoid?
what if there is no problem with the brake light, then is it just strictly the shift lock solenoid?

There are two likely faults for the shift-lock solenoid. Solenoid is open and must be replaced or solenoid is loose and out of position. I don't have a diagram that I can post, but you should be able to set the solenoid by looking at the mechanism and following instructions.
The solenoid moves the shift lock lever which opens a path for the lock pin to move out of park as long as foot is on the brake. W/ solenoid ON, there should be 4.2mm +/-0.5mm clearance between lock pin and shift lock lever. W/ solenoid OFF, the shift lock lever should block lock pin movement.
There are other possibilities for your problem. It could be the interlock control unit, steering column key interlock switch, wiring, AT gear position switch. If the brake light switch or interlock solenoid don't fix your problem, you'll need a Accord Shop Manual to guide you through the diagnostics.

I think he's bypassing the obvious and going straight for the hard stuff.
Turrismaldon, when troubleshooting a car, you start with the easy stuff first. If your brake light are not working (unless BOTH bulbs are blown at the same time), the shift interlock also WON'T WORK. The TCM gets it's signal from the brake switch so it can tell that your foot is on the brake, and then activate the interlock solenoid. So find out FIRST why your brake light don't work, then go from there.
