Here's what I have to choose from a pair of 10W3D6s or a single Eclipse 88120.4 The amp will be a single Xtant 301a which puts out 300WRMS between 2 and 4 ohms. The nominal impedance of the JLs would be 1.5 ohms, but the amp will be fine. I like the single 4 ohm eclipse over the DVC because it has a lower Fs. The enclosure will be a sealed fiberglass/MDF framed enclosure sitting in the spare tire well, sealed with about 1.5 cu.ft of internal volume. I'm not going to waste time calculating TS parameters and using enclosure modeling programs.

What should I do? They're both excellent subwoofers if you build the box, but I'm thinking of the eclipse just because it's prettier. I can't afford a W7. Has anyone has experience with both these subwoofers?

 

SQ / SPL argument comes into play.

I've had experience with the JL's, and heard Eclipses. With your amp, I'd reccomend the Eclipse. Beautiful SQ.

I'd get the JL's, as you won't be giving the Eclipse enough power to sound good.

That Eclipse should be getting 500 watts to sound good. It can handle a max of 1000. 500 RMS.

I'm thinking about doing a fiberglass install in the back of my teg. 1.5 Cu Ft is all you got about the the entire spare trunk area?

 

eclipse has better Sq i'm more of a Sq guy myself......i'd recommend the eclipse

 

I'm going with a single 88120.4 guys. I figure that with the Xtant amp, a solid enclosure and a shop pack of Dynamat Extreme it will sound quite nice with the potential to be pretty loud.
