Default Turbo Timer on an N/A car... :)

I like to let my engine idle for a while after driving. How does a turbo timer work? If it works how I think, I could put it on my n/a car.

Im gonna need one anyway for turbo setup, so dont say 'waste of money!!!!1one!!' just yet.

So... is it possible... I just wanna be 1337 stunna soooo bad.

it justs keeps ur car idling w/ the key out.. mad easy install, its like 6 wires. Theres 4 i think that goto your ignition wires, 1 wire that goes to the e-brake signal wire, and one that goes to your ecu speed sensor wire. These 2 are optional however, but easy enough to install, extra saftey for theft, etc. But yea, it'll work on ur car.

What if you didn't have time to chill with your car? If you were in a hurry, for work or late for a date? You'd wish you had one then.

But that's besides the point. I don't see why you want to let the car idle. To cool down? Why are you redlining into parking spaces?

exactly, you dont need to do spirited driving right befor you park or something. your turbo timer will be when you drive nice and slow and calmly into the parking lot.. thats ur cool-down time. all a turbo timer is used for is more BLING BLING.

you really dont need one, just dont drive like a bowl of uncle ben's rice before you park and you'll be fine

I've driven my turbocharged civic for 18 months and 28k miles without a turbo timer. You really don't need it on a street car with a water cooled turbo housing!

They are needed for high end setups and for turbo's with only oil feeds and no water cooling. Its done so oil keeps circulating and the turbo wont overheat after parking it in the garage after some hot laps around a track.

But you go, stunna!

your kinda accurate on that, its mostly because on oil cooled turbo's only, its used to circulate the oil to cool down the turbo so you dont cook the oil in the turbo, which then would cause bad bearings and so forth.

on water/oil cooled turbo's, you can turn the car off right after a semi hard run or just normal driving. and thats becasue the coolant from the rad keep's circulating through the turbo thus cooling down the turbo and the oil at the same time, so you dont get no baking or overheating. like the subaru's

Exactly, I never used one either. I was making LOTS of power too. Most of the bigger turbos (included in many kits nowadays....except the Greddy ) have pretty large turbos. These don't even spool/spin much at all when you're just driving around town/idling.

Thus, just don't spool up right when you park and you'll be fine. I just shut off the car. Plus if your turbo is water cooled as well, then you need the turbo timer even less.

yea, conflicting arguments over cool down time though. It is easy though. I don't have to worry about it when im in a huge hurry. Plus on the display there it shows boost. Its mounted on the dash, and since their isn't a boost guage i use that to keep an eye on it. Also, the red light flashing when its overboosting is nice as well.

But for na, kind of worthless.

what if, what if, what if.... if you have the time of day to save up for a decent turbo kit and your going to drive like a "uncle bens ricebowl" then you should have enough time on your hands (since you redlined to your date, work, ect) to wait in the car for the car to cool down (if its even needed in the first place)

sure turbo timers are supposed to be theft safe but so is the autolock, cut off switches, clubs, and these 500+ dollar alarms that we put on our cars. id hate to find out my 10k-20k car/turbo setup was stolen because i was too lazy to chill in the car for a few minor seconds.

turbotimers= and only a bling factor

There are plenty of N/A race cars that use turbo timers! You don't have to be turbo to use one, however you can save $80 and just sit in your car for 60-90 sec!

If you have a use for it then it isn't a stupid mod to have, but the avg person doesnt need one!

hmmm... good points made by all. thanks. I dont drive hard to parking. I love your uncle bens rice bowl thing tho. I am poor, so I guess I can afford to sit and wait, or just get it later.

lol, yes im one of those NA's guys with a turbo timer. i baught mine for $20 bucks and decided to wire it up. took only 20-30 min's to wire up. i just use it as a BLING BLING factor on my car. let the car shut off by itself and let people that dont know n e thing about cars wonder how the car turned itself off. but i usually have it off and only turn it on for some bling bling action...
