Finally back from Asia (again); pics from Shanghai F1
Sorry for the delay in posting these, but I spent another week after the race in Hong Kong, Shinjuku (Tokyo) and LA (nice to see H-T members Yellow Blur and B2FiNiTY again
).
This was my 5th trip to China this year
, but the most enjoyable...
My "OG" ClubSi buddy Chris G. (H-T member DC5RK20A), who lives in Okinawa, and I have been planning to attend the inaugural F1 race in Shanghai for some time, and despite some last minute glitches in my travel itinerary (Delta airlines can kiss my ****), we managed to pull it off.
The hotel prices in Shanghai were pretty inflated during race weekend (my "regular" place went from my hookup rate of RMB350 to RMB1200), but we managed to find a decent hotel room in the heart of the city center (near the bustling Nanjing Lu area) for RMB600 (about USD70) a night.
Our tickets in Section K (at the hairpin past the loooong back straight); big thanks to my friend Lisa in Shanghai for ordering the tix for us

Section K is located at Turn 15:

The Shanghai Circuit is located about 1 hr. northwest of Shanghai; there was shuttle bus service from the Sports Stadium in the city center - I thought this was waaay better than the wretched "express" trains that went from Nagoya to Suzuka for the Japanese Grand Prix last year (which consisted of waiting in line for 45mins, then boarding a standing room only train for a 90 min. ride to Suzuka).
Approaching the circuit:

The humongous grandstand structure (that's DC5RK20A in the BAR shirt):

View from Section K; those giant sunshades redirected (and magnified) all the sounds from cars at least 2-fold compared to the sound at Suzuka. I honestly think Chris and I were the only 2 people NOT wearing earplugs in our section the entire weekend

A few action shots (my digicam is too small and slow):

Note Anthony Davidson's car with the "555" livery in the middle:

The <u>coolest</u> electric scooter I have EVER seen:

Sorry, but the clicky pow! factor was disappointing low

The food at the Shanghai Circuit was NOWHERE near as good as the incredible JDM beef kabobs at Suzuka, but the food in Shanghai itself was pretty darn good (and cheap)

Ah, Shanghai traffic sux big-time; it's really gotten bad in the last 2-3 yrs

Overall, I thought the circuit was pretty impressive. Amazing in its size - took us about 90 mins. to walk around the outside.
The sight lines were excellent, as were the facilities. Very spectator friendly IMO. Food was only so-so (and too pricey) and the karting track was not finished, but overall, I rate the experience over F1 at Suzuka. Oh, and the race was very entertaining
Now if only I can find an excuse to attend the MotoGP race next May...

) you can purchase at suzuka, but still badass pics

Man, it wouldnt have killed you to bring me one of the those 555/BAR hats would it?

Stephen, didn't realize it at the time, but the 555 stuff was only offered for sale on Friday. Chris bought one of the pitcrew shirts for RMB900(!) but then he is a baller...
He also managed to trade his BAR flag for a humungous 555/BAR flag (that's not offered for sale)

There were lots of very nice looking Chinese girls in Shanghai itself, but still not on par with the JDM hotties I saw in Shinjuku

Worst Clicky-Pow Ever!
The real Shanghai click-pows sleeps during the day and active during the night.
Shanghai food sucks!! All cold dishes! My friends tricked me into eating crab **** once...literally
I'll have my revenge at GZ when they come and I'll have them eat <insert things you don't want to hear>
The only acceptable ones are the buns at ghetto neighborhoods.
Zhuhai > Shanhai

very cool!
Hearing those V10's scream must have been amazing, especially the Hondas.
I'm hoping I can attend either Indianapolis or the Japanese GP next year.

Ya, where are the real fine shanghaiese chicks... but thanks for sharing.</TD></TR></TABLE>
The nice Shanghainese chicks are usually either shopping on Huaihai Lu or in the Maoming Lu nightclubs. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to show Chris around in the evenings because all the walking during the day at the circuit aggravated the bone spurs in the 5th metatarsal of my left foot
Ray, I got to eat Da Zha Xie with Tao Luna (Olympic Gold medal shooter chick) and her family
And don't forget about the Shanghainese specialties like the little plump sauteed shrimp and Xiao Long Bao

OT, but we had those 'milk carton top' Coke cups at Little Caesar's in GA back in the '80s. I liked them, but apparently nobody else did...
