Default TURBOing the R... playing with the notion... ??????

Well I love all motor... but I have always loved and wanted Turblow... if i was to go threw with this... whats a safe amount of boost to run on stock internals... and whats a good mid-grade turbo kit to buy?

How have all of your R's ran with turbo's.

blown motors?

is there alot of tunning involved?

Depending on your set up 7-8 would be nice. I've been running a turbo r for a lil over a year in a half and have gone through three different set ups. I love it. There are also a couple others that have been running there turbo r's stock internals longer than me with no problems. It's all about the set up and of course the tunning though mine has yet to be tuned but I'm smart i don't go racing around right now and won't until it is tuned.

Cometic Headgasket + Hondata= 8psi...
Just rebuild the motor to be turbo friendly, your gonna do it in the end anyways if you decide to go F/I because you will get the craving for more boost and inevitably need to rebuild.

Don't worry about the boost PSI too much. Tune it well (Hondata/Uberdata, not a piggyback), intercool it and keep it under 300 WHP.

don't boost unless you can afford to rebuild. and psi has nothing to do with anything, setup A will make 250whp at 10psi while setup b will make 300whp at 7psi... so.. are you safer with turbo B yet pushing more hp?

I JUST got done getting mine in my caRRR. It was quite the pain in the ***. Worth it though. I've been driving around untuned for a day now. I'm not running boost at all. This is for getting everything somewhat settled in. My little grace period I've given myself to check the oil lines and fittings after driving, check the oil pan for leaks....etc. etc. etc.

Saturday, I'll be running my P28 ECU and will be tuning it on a dyno with Uberdata. I'll be running max 8lbs of boost. I strongly suggest you tune it on a dyno, this way you can do the timing, and A/F. Street tuning is good, but not as good as a dyno.

Oh...you asked about kits and what not. I'm running a Full Race Stage 3 with a fully upgraded fuel system.

I am runnin mish mash fuel set up right now just waiting to have the cash to put the hondata in. I have inline pro head gasket and block guard. that was by far the best investment of the turbo project. I run 12-13psi on 93 pump and 16-17psi on 114

I run nothing but c16 @ 10 lbs on a full race setup until my block heads to darton. 300+ whp is ****** fun

I drive it sparingly

Hi,

Its exactly the same dilemma i have lately......

My mind was always '' no its too risky NA is better'' but i have a couple of friends of mine who have boosted their tegs and perfromance wise you just can't compare !!

For me the only thing that its stopping me is money for now.......I will run a Drag Gen 3 with JE 9.0 Comp Pistons and Eagle rods.....that should make it reliable on 7-8 psi boost on our crappy fuel.

Good Point.

If you turbo it and your running any substantial boost numbers that Drag manifold will eventually crack on you. They are garbage. Look into Full-Race or Lovefab. Your going to want your manifold as the top priority piece in your hardware setup. The manifold is critical. Get one that is high flowing and NOT cast iron.

i love my setup....its not tuned for what im running right now....but shes still running rich. i put a low compression head gasket in it and am running 8-9 psi. runs consistent 13.3 so far without a hard launch. im taking the exhaust off to run this weekend. should see mid 12's.

I hate to rain on your parade my friend, but just taking the exhaust off will not get you into the mid 12s, especially untuned.

lets not forget inline pro manifold, its one piece cast iron and will not crack, its also great flowing manifold and safe for use in all types of weather.
