spun bearing
when i start my car a loud tapping noise goes on for about 3 seconds, then after around 3k rpm the same noise happens and gets louder and louder as the rpm goes up. Would this be a spun bearing?

more than likely... could also be a bent valve but the b series are famous for spinning bearings

You say the sound gets louder on higher rpm's. Does it also get faster?
A spun bearing would make noise like that, plus it would make noise all the time. How bout this....how fast is it actually? Is it so fast that you can't replicate the noise vocally? Or is it just fast enough where you can imitate it?
The reason I'm asking is to narrow down the choices. For example valve tap is VERY fast. You can't really make "clicking noises" with your mouth THAT fast. Where as rod knock/spun bearing/etc isn't AS fast and you can kinda make that sound.
Do I make any sense?

Sounds like a few marbles in your engine when you start it up and when you let off the gas?
You probably didn't spin the bearing, yet. The bearing is probably chewed and the clearance is really loose. Look to replace the rod and polish the rod journal.
Same thing happened to my engine.
