just got into the speed scene. and im really a noob. what defines an exhaust. like what parts are what. what makes the deep sound. blah blah blah.
thanks im just tryin to learn more

exhaust is what is left after the cylinder burns the gas and oxygen, and possibly nitrous. It travels out of your header (not headers, only one bank on the integra, being an inline 4) through the catalytic converter, otherwise known as a "cat" (I guess you could put a real cat in there, but I doubt it will like it very much, and I believe it would be a HORRIBLE bottleneck in the system). From the cat, it travels through a pipe into the resonator, which if you have a stock exhaust, is that giant oval thingey that is just under your rear bumper. From there it travels out into the aptnosphere through the tip. As far as making power, you would want to remove as many bottlenecks from the system as possible. Starting with the easiest two. the "cat back" system and the cat. The cat back system includes all the piping and what not that is from your cat to the open air. The resonator gives it the "deep" sound that you talk of. The OEM resonator is built to supress all noise as much as possible but in doing so, they manage to create backpressure, which is the amount of pressure not allowing the exhaust to freely breathe, robbing your car of power as well as not allowing optimum fuel efficency.
From there, the next thing to do would to be replacing the header. There are many out there as well as exhaust, so do your research. The header connects to the ports on the engine that are right against your block.
In addition to all of this, in order to make as much power as possible, you would have to do an air intake, and get more air into the engine. No matter how much you free the back end, you are always limited by the amount that the car can consume.
Make sure that the exhaust is mandrel bent, in order to get the best free flowing system. the crush bending that comes on the oem system narrows the exhaust path, causing a bottleneck, resulting in more backpressure against your engine, therefore not fully clearing the burnt exhaust fumes.
I hope this is what you are looking for.

Thank you. I am relatively new to the whole system, so I don't have much experience with honda's, and am not exactly sure what all of the parts are called, but I greatly appreciate the posative feedback from everyone.
