b16a throttle body: broke piece off top. What does it do? What should I do?
Ok, I got my new b16a shipped to me and the metal strap they used to keep in on the crate bent a piece off the throttle body. It is at the top and in the middle and connects to a red hose. Anyways, when i installed the engine and hooked up that hose it broke off. What exactly does that piece do? What will happen if I continue running the engine with out this plugged in?
I am not getting any cels and it seems to be running just fine with out it.

That hose connects to the charcoal canister. It will not affect the way the car/engine runs, will not throw a code.
It is useful if you still have all your EVAP system in the car, you can drill it out and put a piece of tubbing in its place, maybe use some dare I say "steel putty" to hold the tubing in place.

How does it work, or what does it actually do?
Here is a little more info on my car, it is an 88 dx, no a/c, everything is pretty much stock on the car.

That hose sends fuel vapors that are stored in the charcoal canister to the combustion chamber. Rather than being released to the atmosphere, Vapors from the fuel tank are sent to the charcoal canister. the vapors are held there until you start the engine. at that point, the EVAP system releases the vapors into the manifold and they are burnt in the combustion chamber.
Heres what I did, mine was broke in shipping when I was running my b16a. Get some vac hose, and jamb it in there(electrical tape cam be wrapped around it to thicken up the hose) then get a smaller piece of metal tubing, and use it inside to join the vac hoses.
