Default Broke valve cover bolt 4cyl 6th gen

One of my valve cover bolts has snapped about 4 mm after the first threads, so a good chunk of th bolt is stuck in the head.

Does anyone know how I should approach getting this bolt out ?
Is their an easy way to do it ?

Any help or pictures would be appreciated

I'm not familiar w/ 6th gen Accords. All Accords I've seen have a nut tightenting down on a stud that penetrates the valve cover. If I understand you have a bolt that penetrates the valve cover and threads into the head and has twisted off below flush in the head?

These bolts are usually small (6mm?) and extracting w/ easy-out is not easy unless you've done this before. I would take to a machine shop that has some experience w/ this problem.

Since the bolt is under no tension, it could be relatively loose. You might be able to "peck it out" w/ a small sharp punch. You peck on one side to turn bolt CCW and hopefully back out. Another way to do this is use a fine dremel tool and grind a groove for a small screwdriver in the top of the broken bolt head. On a 6mm bolt, this is "major surgery" and will require a magnifying glass to perform.

BTW, the spec on this bolt is ~7 ft-lbs. This is a light tug on a 6-inch wrench. Tightening a leaking valve cover gasket won't stop a leak. Once gasket become hardened, only replacement will stop the leak.

good luck

wow thanks that was some really good info.

My next question is this then, do 6th gen accords have the stud which can be easily removed ?

My F23A1 has long bolts, it doesn't have the same funny studs as my GSR.

Still, you might have to try drilling for a screw extractor. Or maybe find a left-hand drill bit?

I had this happen to my car about 2yr's ago. If you you a small drill bit you can drill the bolt out. Just make sure you punch a hole in the center of the bolt first so you don't get off center. The tap size is 6mmx1.00. You'll want to re-tap the hole once you drill out the bolt to clean out the threads. O' one more thing place a towel of some kind over the exposed valve train when doing this so you don't get any metal in the cyl. head.
Good Luck.
