Default Grassroots Motorsports now has a hatch

The rumors are true, as we picked up a '92 Civic Si on Monday. (And the car was found through honda-tech.com, thank you very much.) Exact plans are being worked out, but I'm sure some STS autocross is in the plans. I'd also like to get the car on track, as NASA's HPDE program has reached our part of the world.

Here's a photo of the car. (The photo is from the online ad.):

Nice find David. I think those stand a good chance in STS.

Congrats!

The 92-95 hatches are an absolute blast! Hopefully you'll be running some Buccaneer Region autoX events with it? I'm very interested in seeing how it'll do in STS...

Nice pick up... The Si is a rare find and usually carries a hefty premium, but if you find one in good shape for cheap it is a great car to have... I am a firm believer that the car can be competitive in ITA (if it moves there), STS, and definitely H4. Unfortunately, not many people have built them up...

Exactly. What's funny is that I came close to buying one new in '92, but an SE-R won out. I also test drove one a few years ago, but again the Miata won. Now the prices are reasonable, but you guys are right in that these cars are tough to find. I actually checked out two this weekend, but the other needed some real body work.

I really do wonder how the car can do in STS, and I do hope to make some Jacksonville events. It's actually my local SCCA region.

<--- wishes he could just toss the d16z6 in his hatch and run in sts or h4...

Exactly. That's why I went with a real Si vs. a stanard one.

Hindsight is 20/20... At the time I bought my swapped hatch, H1 was affordable

David,

Are we going to see a work-in-progress write-up in Grassroots, with plenty of photos next issue?

STS no, but H4 yes. Read the rules, you can do it. You have to switch to the Si supsension and brakes but the car would be legal. The rules allow for it and that exact topic has been discussed before on here. It's legal in NASA HC, but nowhere else, such as SCCA IT.

David, nice find. Is the car gonna get any magazine coverage? What's the condition of the motor? Keep us updated as to what you do with it.

Yes, he is aware of the modifications, he was participating in that thread.

Anyways....

Hatch vs. coupe for ITA/H4 - any benefits or tradeoffs between them?

But is frowned upon... I believe we decided that different fuel tank didn't matter since a fuel cell was legal? And I'd need to swap to the Si steering column... Hopefully I could just throw the motor in and call it a day, if someone wanted to protest then so be it. But lets not fill this thread up with that stuff, back to the GRM Si!

I think it is moving from S to A. And that would probably be my choice of ITA car to have.

Oh, I'm sure it will appear in the magazine, but probably not with the next issue. I have some other stuff to clear off my plate first. I'm actually working on an editorial gameplan right now.

Outstanding! You just sold a subscription! (Well, I was going to buy it anyway... ) Since I am in the middle of my 92 Si build up for STS, I will be very anxious to follow your progress.

This in reply to a response that mentions the car is now in ITA.

Hmm.

David, care to share? Or must we wait?

Um, well, not ITA, at least right now. We already have one road race car that doesn't get enough attention. (That would be the MINI.) STS initially, as there seems to be some questions as to how the car will do. Plus I'm currious myself. And I really like the class.

David... let's talk!! I currently run my red 92 Si in STS so I am very interested in this. Currently I only have basic mods (coil-overs, Illumina's, ST swaybar, delSol seats, 15x7 wheels) but an AEM intake is in the garage and a header is on the short list.

I also will be moving my SSC Neon over to ITA (!) this winter so I have lots of projects.

Nice....

So a question, just like that... Will you have Daddio driving the thing?

Didn't even think about the Daddio card. Good idea....

And Jan, I'll be in touch.
