Throttle body too large?
Hello, I was wondering if my throttle body (70mm) is too large for my application and causing me to loose power.
I bought my r motor long block only so it didnt include a intake manifold so i bought locally a JG edelbrock 70mm TB to match my AEBS intake mani which is also 70mm.....I tried running my motor on a LS TB and it felt like crap....but with the 70mm TB the car is very responsive and VTEC engagement is strong......I want to know if i should get a smaller TB, like 65mm perhaps, or stay with the JG...because i do plan to do headwork......
MODS
3in intake into....comptech style airbox
DC JDM 4-1 header
2.5 test pipe
Kakimoto R catback
ACT heavy duty pressure plate, street disc
ACT 8lb flywheel

It's a valid question... but I bet no one knows the answer that has viewed your thread.
I don't really have an answer either.
At least it matches your intake manifold. I wouldn't worry about it too much (especially not enough to look for a stock TB!!) Ideal size might be smaller, but even so slightly too big might only sacrifice a little midrange torque (intake velocity lower?)

thanks Cris....even though it feels good and responsive for top end .......i was thinking if i got something smaller , i would have slighty more acceleration down under.......alex
IMO I think it's a little overkill for your mild setup....A 66mm or even a stock ITR would be more ideal for your setup....I don't think it will hurt you but I don't think it's really helping you either....anybody else agree or disagree
On my old 84mm motor the 70mm throttle body was good for 2-3 hp over the 62mm ITR throttle body. I believe SGT posted a while back that a 70mm TB actually hurt performance on 1.8 liter engines.
