Default SOHC Valve cover removal

I checked my acrobat version of the helms manual and it shows two bolts. Do I need to drain oil or do anything else before removing the valve cover? im thinking of painting it. thanks.

There are 5 bolts that hold the valve cover down. First remove the plug wires and then any ground wires. Then remove the PCV valve hose. Then remove the five bolts that hold the valve cover on. You may need to work to get it off, it may be a little stuck if it hasn't been removed before. You may want to buy a new valve cover gasket and do a valve adjustment at the same time.

Next time though, run a search. I know there was a post like last week that covered the same thing.

be very careful when tightening the valve cover bolts. 7ft/lbs i believe is the correct tourqe setting. they snap like pencils.

Very easy to do.....I actually just did mine last week and painted it wrinkle black. Gonna be takling it off again tonight to troubleshoot some ticking noise I'm getting. Way less nervous this time.

Also.....mine had never been taken off as far as I know and the gasket was fine. No leaks at all.
