SlicksMH 101; Storing your SLICKS away for the long winter nap.
It's been aloooooooog time and over due. I have been getting alot of IM asking how to store slicks on the off season. Here is what I think and should be done.
#1- Let all the air out of the slicks, because if one goes down over the winter the slicks will be off when you air it back up.
#2 Take two 5- gal buckets put the open side down and then put the wheel on top. Then take the #2 bucket and do the same thing. Then cover them up with a blanket, using plastic could cause moisture.
#3 The reason for the buckets is to keep the slicks off the concert and causing a flat spot on the slicks and keeping them from touching sidewall to sidewall.
#4 Keep them out of direct sun light and dry and "extreme" temperature conditions..
I know this sounds funny LOL, but I have some racers storing their slicks in their bedroom.
Good Luck and be SAFE.

lol, pm'd last week about this..
why not add a set of slicks to my room.. already have a dc 4-1 header in box, 4 15x7 bronze TE-37s in boxes and 4 bridgestone potenza s0-3's, but hasn't gotten too cold yet, still outside, going to move them in soon! and didn't think about the 50 gal buckets, thanks for the information

So John, is it imperative to take the slick off the rim every winter? Or is this only for tires without rims, thankie

Probably not the best place... Ozone is hard on rubber, and the case fans and PSU in the computer are potential sources. It's also not a good idea for stored tires to share space with equipment like pumps and compressors, because they generate ozone as well. Basically, avoid anything that produces an arc.

hrmm... looks like i'll be picking them off the garage floor tonight and doing some winterizing.
great info, as i was just wondering about conditioning my slicks.
what about the old story i've heard that you need to spray them down with wd40 before you cover them, any truth or just wisetail?
