Default '01 S2K dyno at 202.6hp @ wheels ... opinions

I decided to pop the car on the free dyno challenge on the mobil dyno at Englishtown's NHRA event for the 4 cyl NA class.

I was expecting around 185-190whp as everyone says the 2000 and 2001 S2k's generally show, but say more like 202.6 whp.

The mods on the car is the testpipe, ultimate racing exhaust, an SFC vtec controller and an O2 sensor simulator.

Ran the car weighing in at 3040 lbs with me and craploads of stuff in the trunk, could only muster some 14.4 passes with 2.1 60' times. This is the same car that ran 14.0 @ 70mph (lifting) bone stock back in april this year with a 2.1 60' ever since I put the testpipe on and ran with CEL I've found the car to be slow.

any comments ?

BTW, I leaned the controller for fuel out -5% from 3-6Krpm and -7% from 7-8Krpm.

That seems about right. 185 rwhp is kinda low, but it depends on the type of dyno used. 200-205 seems to be the norm though.

you have to compare your dyno graphs from stock vs your new dyno graphs. some tuner shops try to tune customer cars just to make the most peak hp but giving up some torque or giving up a broader torque/hp powerband. (alot of people get happy with the most hp, believe me i used to be one of those guys) so you can have a lower peak hp with a broader torque/hp curve that will yield a better ET than the same setup with just a high peak hp.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought that looked outta place.
Must've been a typo I'm guessing.

One more thing...you mentioned the mods, weights, etc...but how many miles were on the engine?

the 14.0 @ 73 mph is correct, I mentioned in the post that I let off .. somewhere near the 1000 ft mark if i remember ... it was a headsup class and at Etown you cannot run 13.99 without a hardtop or roll bar, I've been running 14.1s all day with 2.3 and 2.4 60 foot times, then when i launched at 7k rpm she hook and I had to let off cause then i'd be disqualified ... won the event that day too.

I def think the TQ was low, i see it all over the place, but it could have been from where they hooked up the rpm sig from one of the spark plug coils.

it was a 248c mobil dynojet.

you were expecting 185 whp? ... and you have i/test pipe? ... that means drivetrain loss would have to be around 60 whp from a bone stock s2k ... that's too much!

15-20% max drive line loss... 200-210 is about right... I can't beleive a stock s2000 weights more than 3000lbs wet???

lol, yup you got me I'll really try to lie about what my s2000 ran when I have full focus on my 10 sec all motor racecar and just use the s2000 to fool around with at local events ?

thanks vapor, I thought it was high, looked at the chart and TQ was in the 120-130 range ... btw, I won the challenge got me a free case of QS oil ... prolly will see pics on the NHRA website they side.

hahaha some of these replys crack me up. i dont understand why its so hard to realize that HE LET OF THE GAS and rolled through the traps at 7x mph lol

i have never attempted to tune one of these cars but from what ive heard about greg you do know how to tune a car. so im sure its not the tuning. could it possibly be to little back pressure? (most likely not)

it felt like my s2k got a little slower when i threw on some bolt ons as well but i have no proof.
hmm cant help ya man

sounds like you need to have it properly dyno tuned.

street tuning a stock motor a/f's can be sketchy imo

I think what is misleading here is the fact that he crossed the line in 14.00 seconds at a speed of 70 mph. Those figures aren't usually together in a 1/4 mile slip, they are too different, you know?

THat's just what I gathered from it, i'm not saying it's not possible, there are lots of factors in 1/4 mile racing.

its VERY hard to understand if you actually THINK about it for a second..

Most people STRUGGLE to get 14.0s dead stock, and thats with hard launches and shifting like a mo fo ALL THE WAY down the strip....

YET this guy managed a 14.0 while letting off with a fourth left of the quarter mile to go......sssurree...and he magically knew he was going to pull a better than 14.0 ?...

Its VERY hard to tell whether your going to be running a few tenths faster than your last run. Especially with a good chunk of the quarter mile left to go....

timeslip please, or im going BS..
