Auto to Manual Questions
I know that most people say to just sell an auto and buy a new 5 speed but if someone is going to just convert then how hard is it to do to a 98LS.
I was told the fram is different in one place meaning a piece would need to be fabricated. Is this true?
Besides that is anything else very complicated?
I know that to do it I will need:
Tranny, Brake Pedal, Clutch Pedal, Slave Cylinder, Clutch Master Cylinder, Flywheel, Clutch, Shift Linkage, Shifter, Cluster, Front Axles, and a manual ecu besides the nuts and bolts to hook it all up...
I know some of you out there have done this, please tell me what it cost you and what problems you had.
Thanks a lot and please don't flame me for asking I just want to know...

You'll also need the clutch hard lines, and the rubber line as well. For B series applications, you'll need to order Place Racing's conversion engine mount, or fabricate a mounting location for the upper tranny mount. You'll also have to bypass the neutral safety switch, but that's particularly easy.
Thanks for the replies... that's great if I can use the same axles, save me some money.
As for the Place Racing Conversion Engine Mount, is that to take place of the piece that's welded on? Basically is it's purpose to make converting to a 5 speed possible?

no need for the place racing mount, they are no longer in business from what i hear.....I
The conversion takes some time, we have done them in a day with all the parts present. You can use the same axles like Virusiidx said. as for the mount its the passenger side top tranny mount. the one on the frame of the car needs to be taken off and a new one needs to be fabricated or you can by the 5sp one and weld it in place. make sure you have the 5sp tranny top tranny mount that bolts to the tranny and you will also need the rear mount bracket for the 5sp. Don't need the cluster unless you want it. And you will need to bypass the parking lock and wire up the reverse lights.. we just did a 91 integra and a 95 integra in the same week......if you need more info on it let me know

you can also cut the stock tranny frame off and grind it down as much as possible, and get a 5spd tranny frame mount from acura and have someone weld it on for you... might be cheaper than the place racing mount....not sure though, you would have to price them both....
Ya it is a lot cheaper then a place racing mount would be and I can't find that one anyways. If I bought a set of mounts from say Hasport it would have all of these, correct? Might as well get the good stuff while I do this...

yeah, the half shaft wont fit, i heard lots of stories where it does fit, but it doesnt, tried it. so u need the manual half shaft.
as for the auto to manual tranny mount, isnt there anywhere else that sells em, besides place racing? I believe there's like 2 other companies that make em. I used the place racing mount.
Fabricating it is too hard imo and unreliable?

Ya I am trying to find a reputable shop in Nor Cal though I think I found a place...
I am worried about getting all the parts because I have never done this before and don't wanna buy some bad stuff. Any ideas on where I could get everything at once for a decent price?
Thanks for all the help

Hasport and HCP make the tranny mount. As far as all the parts, you can probably get them from a junkyard out of a wrecked teg. The parts total should cost maybe $1000 including the tranny. Labor Im not sure because I am doing my own.
I got mine from overboost.com... however they had to order it from place and place is now out of business... so basically good luck unless someone has it in stock
I did it on my Integra a while ago.
To clear the halfshaft/intermediary shaft issue up:
You can still use the passenger side axle from the automatic. You will, however need a driver's side axle, as well as a 5-speed half shaft/intermediary shaft. (Plus the bracket that attaches to the block, obviously)
A manual ECU will not be absolutely necessary, but you will throw a Code 1660 (Automatic shift solenoid is in the PARK position). It will not affect performance at all.
A manual center console is also optional. They are slightly different than the automatic ones. You can kinda do a little "customizing" and make it look just as good.
I just quickly went through the posts and didn't see anyone mention a starter. You will need a 5-speed starter. The holes for the automatic one don't line up and is slightly different.
