Who wears a Sparco Suit? (fitment details)
I ordered my Sparco driver package from AdamITR (Adam Curpier) from curpiermotorsport and everything was received well packaged and Adam was even awesome enough to send a follow up email.
I have been away from home for about a month so I was not able to try on my suit till yesterday.
I stand 5'10, 145lbs and by all accounts should fit into the size 52 suit. My hips are a bit on the big side as I think I have an abnormally large *** for my body type (ectomorph)
I find the legs a bit short and the crotch a bit ...uh tight. I wear Nike dri-fit (read: thin) shorts and a Sugoi/Nike dri-fit t-shirt (thin) under the suit.
When I raise my arms above my head, my boys get strangled. I know you'll never do that when you're driving, except maybe on your victory lap and on the podium, but just wondering if anybody else's Sparco suit fits as I have described?
I have also noticed that the lower back portion of my suit rides up a bit and causes my dri-fit Tee to scrunch up.
RA who is wondering if he shoulda ordered the size 54, but then wonders some more if the suit will bunch up in his Recaro bucket seat making it even MORE uncomfortable?

same dimensions as you are
52 is TIGHT, i tried one on and errr, promptly did not try to zip up for the very same reason as yours.
54 would be the smallest you wanna go.
i have both a 54 and a 56, and i find 56es even better.

Never had that particular problem with my Sparco. Only problem I've had was getting it around my
gut, which fluctuates. Once I'm actually sitting in the car it just kind of feels right.

I wear a Sparco. Don't recall the size. It fit well when I was overweight, so should be even better now that I'm average sized.
The only thing I don't care for with the sparco suit is the cheap velcro on the belt. It doesn't stick after a while. That's all I have to say about that.

I don't think I will be weight training anymore due to bad shoulders but I was never a big guy to start with....they cite there should be about 3inches left over in the chest area but I don't think there's even 3mm....I can't imagine racing in something that is so confining.....
When you compared the 54 and 56 was it noticeably a lot baggier? What were you wearing under your suit? And where was the difference in size most noticeable between 54/56? I'm taking a closer look in the mirror and the legs are definately too short which is what is causing the back to ride up.
I'm not sure if different Sparco models vary in their fitting but I am wearing a Sparco Fashion 5. (More info in my sig on this deal)

One thing I also noticed too.....
Wutever, duct tape.....

Here is a thread I started at the beginning of the year when I was buying my Sparco. Some good info in there.

Ignoring the sizing issues (clearly you need to go up a size so just do it!) I will instead zoom in on your choice of undergarments.
While I understand and appreciate your choice of a wicking, quick-drying base layer it is in NO WAY appropriate for motor racing. The synthetic underwear, when exposed to flame or intense heat will MELT INTO YOUR SKIN. It will not just burn you, it will inflict SEVERE, difficult-to-repair damage. Your suit (even a fancy FIA-rated 3-layer) will not prevent this.
I strongly urge you to switch to 100% cotton (100% only!) undergarments or use real fire-resistant undies. Sparco makes boxer-briefs and short sleeve T's.
Please.

No way.
I have a Sparco size 52 and it is tight in the inseam and across my back. I am a little short of 5-7 and weigh 145lbs.
I also have SJR's size 54 Sparco currently and it fits me almost perfectly - much better than the 52 but based on Sparco's sizing chart I am definately a 52.

NASA is the same as the SCCA. Neither organization requires underwear with a 3-layer suit - only 1 and 2 layer.
The package the original poster is referring to comes with either the Sparco Sprint or the Sparco Fashion. The Fashion is a 2 layer but the Sprint has an option to come as a 3 layer for an additional $40 over the 2 layer Sprint's cost.

I didn't read far enough into the paragraph apparently. Still, wouldn't it be similar to the balaclava rule in that if you're going to choose to wear underwear that isn't required, it still has to meet the requirements?

A balaclava is still partially exposed in spots. Underwear isn't.

i ordered a 56, personally.. I'm about an inch taller and 25 lbs heavier(even distributed - no gut).. I had a 54 that I had bought off ebay at one point.. didn't like how it fit and sold it again.. that's why I went with the 56 this time around.. I had a similar problem though with the 54..

actually, it's not only 2 vs 3 layer, it's also about the rating of the suit. A 2-layer 3.2a/5 or above (/10, /15) can be worn without nomex undies. The Sparcos are rated 3.2a/5.
I have a sparco. Size ??. Maybe 54? (5'8"/155 lbs) I can look at home. They aren't made for girls. Dammit. I had the sides taken in so it wouldn't swallow me around the middle. It's perfect for height and hips though.

nothing bulky, except my ribvest.
wasn't noticeably bigger. slightly longer in the leg department which i appreciate. the shoulder seams of the suit is exactly where they should be when i put em on, so it's not OVERLY huge going one size up.
only complain is i had to stick a new velcro strip "extnesion" cuz the stock ones were made for ppl w/ a bigger midsection than the one i sport
other than that, it's just about perfect.
