Need help with verifying SCCA rules.
I don't have the SCCA rule book, so I was hoping I could find some help here. Next season I plan on racing my 88 civic DX, which is stock at the moment and my daily driver.
I want to upgrade the brakes to integra units (front and rear) and also do some minor suspension modifications. When I say minor I speak of adding a rear sway bar, maybe a simple coil over system with koni yellows.
In doing this, will it change the class that I will run in? I know that motor swaps and FI place you in higher classes, but I plan on keeping the motor stock for a season.
Thank you in advance to those that leave helpful information.

keep it way... http://www.moutons.org has all the classing information you could need.

no need to upgrade the brakes for autocrossing. if you're able to lock the tires up then you have more than enough braking power. swapping brakes will put you in street mod (with swapped cars) or a prepared class, i don't know for sure. either way with your stock motor you won't want to be there.
a sway bar will put you in sts.
koni yellows are shocks, not coilovers. you can get koni yellows (use stock springs) and remain in stock class.
i suggest you get koni yellows, some good tires, and some aggressive street pads (axxis ultimates or carbotech bobcats)...

Racing, as in wheel-to-wheel racing? Or autocrossing? Or open lapping? Or rally?
As a general rule, brake hardware changes will put you in a class that allows oodles of other modifications.

I know the Koni's arnt coil overs. What I ment to say was a coil over sleeve like Omni powers WITH Koni shocks. Sorry for not wording that correctly.
The brakes were more of a saftey issue, not performance. Will swapping integra rotors and calipers bump me up?
Here are a few things I am unclear about as well. It says nothing about upgrading suspension bushings. Would this be a good idea due to the age of the car? Also, it says I can use any factory optional wheels. What year/model rims would be ideal?
That's all I have for right now. I have to get to some homework. Thanks for helping me out MichaelJComputer.

In my region (Reno), only solo 2 auto cross is done. I will also be going to open track days with the NCRC and other groups.

yes. what is the safety issue in running civic brakes?

not a bad idea, but replace with oem... "upgraded bushings" will put you in sts.

the largest wheels that were available from the factory on your car when it was bought new.

Thank you for clearing that up
So the best things for me to do to prep the car will be to refurbish my stock brakes. Add better pads and stainless steel brake lines (I saw that it was legal on pre- 92 vehicles). I will also add Koni yellows. What would be a good tire for me to look into?

Based on what you've said so far, here is what I'd do for next season...
Prep the car for Street Touring and track use.
This would include:
1. New OEM suspension bushings, tie rod end, ball joints, CV boots, etc.
2. Tune-up engine - plugs, wires, filters, fluids, etc.
3. Inspect stock brake hardware. New fluid, new pads, new MC. New OEM lines or stainless.
4. 15" wheels and falken azenis tires
5. off the shelf Konis and coilover kit.
6. 21mm or so rear sway bar.
For track use, add:
1. Roll bar
2. Harnesses for both front seat passengers.
3. Track-worthy brake pads (ask around for current prefered pads).

I can do-

And add the Konis, and stay in the stock class. Remember, this is my daily driver.

if you are new to autocross, stick with street tires for your first season. a good high performance summer tire will be fine. do some searches and you'll find many discussions on such street tires as falken azenis sport, kumho ecsta mx, and yokohama es100 that are often used for autocross. grip, wear rate, and available sizes will vary by the model of tire.

Rollbar and harness are legal for stock class. If you plan to do high speed lapping events, I'd get them.
The thing with stock class is you'll need R-compound tires to compete at all. It seems like a toss-up to me - STS you spend a chunk of money on suspension once, or Stock you spend smaller chunks of money of tires every season.
