Default B18B turbo...

I've got a 1989 Civic Dx which I use for track racing. The guy I bought it off of last year droped a B18b into it, and now im lookin to get some more power outta it, specially at the higher rpm range.

Ive never turbo'd a car before but do have a turbo daily driver (Audi S4).

What do I need to turbo this baby (the b18b), and what will it cost approx.
Remember this is a track car and not a daily driver. Also keep in mind it is a race car for enjoyment more or less and dont want to drop 15K on the engine.

Someone help me out here...

2500 could get you a very nice setup...turbo, manifold, intercooler, piping, oil feed & oil return lines, and a good fuel management, im using the vafc hack with 450dsm injectors...im now upgrading to hondata, but im reading a lot about uberdata which is about the same thing, but its free to download....goodluck man, also use the awesome search feature on this site

2500 is about right. BUT if your going to run more than 7psi get some better internals...thats where it gets expensive. I am piecing together a set right now and am close to 4000...I am waiting around and checking out ebay to find people that couldnt afford to finish there turbo project and pick up stuff off of them..

if its gonna run 4000 to get over 7psi... is there any other motors which fit a 89 civic dx chassis.. say a small block v8 (just checkin).. or a evo engine or somethin already with a turbo on it?

Im sure a sbv8 or an evo could fit, as anything is possible if you got the know how and the tools but the problem is I think that those choices for engines would be just a tad bit over $4k. To get your b18b to push over 7 psi is not gonna cost you over $4k, cuz you can get almost any turbo on any engine over 7 psi, the problem is that over 7psi that will be more stress on your engine and its not gonna be as reliable, but im sure there are plenty of people here on ht that push over 7 psi on a stock bottom end, and don't have problems. The big thing about upgrading the bottom end is connecting rods, by themselfs they aren't too expensive but to install them you have to pretty much take apart the whole engine, and unless you know how to do that your self, your gonna have to pay some1 else to do it for you and im sure they aren't gonna be 'cheap' to install em for you.

when you say track...do you mean the drag strip? If you truly mean the track (read: turns) then a turbo may not be a good idea. Some guys in the roadrace/atuoX section say that the turbo in daily driving and 1/4 mi drag racing is fine, but when its on the track, and the car is at high rpms for a VERY LONG TIME (5.5k rpm +) the engine will over heat.

i bought an ebay kit for 1400 bucks, and the piping idnt match at all, and i bought ti for that reason because i didnt want to make piping...so basicly i bought turbo oil lines intercooler wastegate and manifold for that price...i then bought the 450s and a VAFC, and had a shop fab a 3in DP and 2.5 charge piping, wideband tuned it...ive spent about 2300, yesterday i took the longblock out, and im in the process of breaking it down to bare block, having bored to 81.5mm and adding cp pistons 9.1comp, and some forged rods with block guard. i set 1500 aside to spend on these new mods so ill be in the $4k range soon...takes time man! just get a good fuel management and you can boost 10psi on stock internals like nothing, i have friends going on 2years pushing 10psi on a stocj engine running 1 using hondata and other with uberdata

stock internals can hold more then 7 psi with ease. I have been boosting almost 9 psi for 6 months now with no issues what so ever, the most important thing is how well the ignition and fuel maps are tuned once it is turboed

KaBlammyman, when i say track car.. i mean road coarse.. not drag strip. To get it tuned properly, where abouts would I take it to? ... does anyone have a complete parts list of things I will need to construct a turbo system for my car.
I wanna get it started soon, what are some things I should be picking up right away. What is a good turbo IM to get? good turbo which will typically spool up round 4000 rpm (cuz that would be the power band requested... 4000-7000 rpm).

I just need some more power to pull away from in the corners. It gets quite embarrasing when you pass a vette in the corner and it just soars by you on the straight.

road course is gonna be a bit harsh for the b18b. i would see about maybe getting a supercharger(jackson). you might have enough clearance between the engine and firewall to fit it.

if your bent on turbo it can be done, but will require a few more parts.

you'll want to get a aluminum radiator, like fluiddyne or koyo.
you'll want to install a oil cooler with the turbo, b&m makes a few good ones.

then you'de need a good turbo setup. something ballbearing. use http://www.importparts.com and build a system with them.

at 7psi intercooled and tuned you could see 200hp. with a set of cams and intake manifold/throttle body you could see 200whp.
